5. "Strawberry Kisses" - Nikki Webster BTW, that song had a cover version from Brazil:

I know I originally rated this as being one of the Top-5 worst Australian songs, but after second thought, I don't think it's that bad. Sure, it's incredibly cheesy and the lyrics are quite simple, but there are definitely worse songs out there, in my opinion. I can see why it was so successful at the time of it's release (it peaked at #2 on the ARIA Chart).
To be honest, I'm actually surprised that "Strawberry Kisses" was never a hit in the UK. My guess is that, by the time it was released in the UK in May 2002, bubblegum-pop was beginning to lose it's momentum and enter into it's twilight years in the mainstream. Had the single been released at the same time as it was in Australia (June 2001), it's possible that it would have performed better than it's peak chart position of #62.

BTW, it charted at #58 in the Netherlands. (Personally, I suspect that it would probably have done well if it were released in Scandinavia. After all, it sounds like Swedish girly pop from around the same time, examples of which would be Bubbles, Caramell, and Play. )

Actually, I would add this into my Top-10 Worst Australian songs list. I completely forgot about this song; I only rediscovered it as I happened to look through a few Top-50 charts from 2005. Honestly, I don't understand how "Ohh Ahh" managed to peak at #13 and stay on the ARIA Chart for 11 weeks. It's so low-brow. The lyrics are absolutely awful and the rapping (which wasn't even necessary) at the end of the song is ridiculous. I'm convinced that this is, in actual fact, the worst Australian song to ever be released. I've read that it only was played on the radio because of her then-boyfriend.

I only rediscovered this song last night. The chorus itself isn't too bad, but the rest of the song is quite average. It's almost as if the producers only had the chorus in mind and they tried to make lyrics to go along with it. Incredibly, it took four people to write the lyrics to "So Hot Right Now". All in all, this was just a poor attempt at making an American R&B song, with the end result being it's a very "try-hard" composition. While it's not the worst song to have been released, it would have to rank in the bottom half of the worst songs from this country.

One of the songs I played in the Hangouts chat.
