Since the 2020s are near, I thought it would be interesting to see if people think the 2020s will see good changes or bad changes. For example it is predicted that by 2021, there will be 6.1 billion smartphone users globally, overtaking basic fixed phone subscriptions, there will be robot exoskeletons to help elderly people by 2020, first robotic pharmacist by 2021, use of wireless power by 2022, 80% of people on earth will have a digital presence online by 2023, first manned mission to Mars by 2024 and by 2026, the first 3D Fast Bus, the Land Airbus, is tested on Chinese roads. From what I've read, the 2020s are likely going to be the first technology influenced decade where technology is hugely dominant throughout 2020-29, ie public (drive-less cars, drive-less bsues, robot guides) workplace (robots, self-check out services etc). Although some of these are predictions, do you think the 2020s will see good changes or bad changes?

I strongly doubt we'll be getting robots in the 2020's or anytime soon. It's still too early to decide anyway.

I think it largely depends on how technology advances over the course of the decade. I'm not really supportive of the idea of self-driving cars, because i'm skeptical about the safety risks associated with the AI technology. Given that we already live in an age where Government agencies can become hacked by everyday people, i'm not too confident about the security of self-driving cars.
There needs to be more of an emphasis on the ethical and moral issues surrounding the development of new technology. I personally don't think all technological advances are beneficial to society, because there are tasks which should still require manual/human effort.

My biggest fear for the 2020's is that as technology continues to boom young children will become more and more obsessed, either that or too many people will become so dependent on social media that they can barley function in the real world. I've already kind of seen it with people at my high school. Some of my peers can't even make it through class with checking their phones every 10 seconds. Then when I try to talk to them they can barley sustain a conversation that is not about social media! I honestly can't imagine what it would be like to attend school with someone who doesn't remember a time before smartphones.
Another one of fears is the rise of tension between the American Right and Left. I hope that people on both sides can at least try to understand the other side and not just constantly argue with or vilify those they don't agree with , sadly I don't see that happening anytime soon.

It's definitely an issue that needs addressing. Although, I have my doubts that it will ever be completely rectified, as many parents rely on smartphones/social media to entertain their kids.

It's hard to predict exactly what will happen in the future but like every decade, I'm sure the next one will have it's fair share of good, bad and indifferent things. I can see 2010s nostalgia happening will not big but you know just like 2000s Nostalgia as of right now. Similar to what happens every decade, I'm sure the young adults of the 2020s will be nostalgic about the 2010s.

Well, so far this decade is not shaping up well for the US... Pretty much a guaranteed thing when Donald Trump won the 2016 election. The economy is completely destroyed, crime is skyrocketing, the pandemic will never end because fundamentalist Christians refuse the vaccine, bigotry and anti-intellectualism against anything non-WASP has taken over every aspect of society, and the future has never been so hopeless. Just to think, our current reality could have been so much different if a few thousand people would have voted differently in 2016. And to think Trump is very likely to reclaim power in 2025. Right now, I would bet on the USA not lasting this decade. This is bleak. And on a personal level, I complained a lot in the 2010s and I was very negative, but if I knew how bad things were going to get I would have appreciated the 2010s so much more.

By the end of this decade we're going to look back on the 10s like the 90s back in 2009. Not saying the 10s were a good decade either.
