This topped the charts of several countries. In Italy though, it only reached #42.

This topped the charts of several countries. In Italy though, it only reached #42. It's strange that it performed so poorly in Italy, because it was a Top-10 hit in several other mainland Europe countries such as Germany and France. Obviously Italy doesn't love rock 'n roll.

This was a smash hit all over the world in 1986/1987...except in the UK, where it only made it to a measly #87.

This was supposedly the song that broke My Chemical Romance into the mainstream over in the US. I think it's a real shame that "Helena" only peaked at a pathetic #78 here in Australia (despite charting within the Top-40 in the US, UK & NZ), because I would personally consider it as being one of the greatest songs to have come out of the Emo scene. Then again, "Helena's" lack of success here doesn't come as much of a surprise to me, because I honestly don't remember Emo being a "thing" until after Panic at the Disco's "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" was a hit in Early 2006. Fall Out Boy's From Under the Cork Tree under-performed in Australia as well.

Mika's Grace Kelly charted nearly number 1 in every country except the US, where it charted 57 on the Billboard top 100.

I heard this song for the first time a few days ago. When it came on the radio as I was driving home from work, I actually thought that this was a cover released by S Club 7, however I've since learnt that it is in fact a song by a one-hit wonder, bubblegum-pop group called T-Shirt. It really surprises me that this only charted as low as #63 in the UK. It's the type of song that I would have thought mainland Europe (excluding Belgium, where it made it to #10 on the charts) and especially the UK would have lapped up! Here in Australia, it was actually one of the biggest hits of 1998, having been certified platinum and finishing as the 30th best-selling single of that year. It spent 32 weeks within the Top-50 and peaked at #6. The cover was also a huge hit in New Zealand.

Wow, I completely forgot about her since, but she was a slight sensation back in the mid-2000s with her light jazz music. I remember her being quite heavily advertised here. But outside of some European countries and Canada, she had no presence on the charts whatsoever.
Between her, Norah Jones, Michael Bublé, Jamie Cullum and Amy Whinehouse, there was a bit of a "jazz-pop" obsession in the 2000s, wasn't it?

Man... Europe has just weird tastes sometimes. This choral piece for the 1992 movie "1492: Conquest of Paradise" topped several European charts like Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland in 1995, while it did so in France back in 1992. What a strange thing...

This cover of Prince's great song was featured on the soundtrack of Romeo & Juliet and it became a huge hit in Australia, peaking at #3 on the ARIA Charts in July of that year and finishing as the 38th best-selling single of 1997. Despite appearing on one of the highest grossing films of 1996, "When Doves Cry" failed to chart in the United States, the UK, or in mainland Europe. The surprising thing about it is the fact that the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack spawned a number of successful singles (e.g "Lovefool"), and the soundtrack itself was even certified double platinum status. This really is the type of song that I thought would have performed well in the UK and especially across mainland Europe, but for whatever reason, the only other country where it charted at all was New Zealand, where it reached a modest peak of #34.

This was one of the biggest songs of 2008 in many countries around the world, including the United States where it reached a peak of #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it only charted at #66 in Australia.
