This is partially inspired by the "Could you go a day without the internet" thread. Due to the advancement of technology over the past 10-15 years, many people choose to speak to their friends through social media, texting or by calling their mobile phone. However, before social media truly started to become widespread, it was common for people to speak to a friend through their landline telephone. Just out of curiosity, have you ever spoken to any of your friends through landline before? When I was 9 and 10 years old, I had a friend who would quite often call my home phone on weekends or school holidays. Sometimes my Mum answered the phone and he would have to ask my Mum if he could speak to me. It was good talking to him on the phone, but sometimes he would never shut up. I remember once he spoke to me on the phone for about 55 minutes!

I definitely have! When I was 7 or 8 I remember exchanging phone numbers with a couple friends. We would usually just talk about tv shows or school.

I surprisingly never did. I didn’t like the thought of sharing the landline phone with my parents so the dumb little me decided to rather lose contact with my school friends instead of just remembering my house phone number until I got my own cell phone lol.

Of course. That's how I used to talk to all of my friends when I was a kid, nowadays I very rarely use our landline and we don't often get calls on it however I still have one friend who still contacts me over landline even though he has a cellphone😂

Yeah, that's pretty much what my friend and I used to talk about as well. I surprisingly never did. I didn’t like the thought of sharing the landline phone with my parents so the dumb little me decided to rather lose contact with my school friends instead of just remembering my house phone number until I got my own cell phone lol. It's a shame that you didn't stay in contact with your school friends. Oh well, at least you can talk to your friends at any time you wish to now. Surely almost everyone did? I still have a landline phone. Not necessarily. It would depend on whether they were allowed to use the phone, how far away their friends lived or even when they were born. For instance, I couldn't imagine there being too many 10-year-old kids out there, who would be choosing to speak to their friends through a landline phone. They probably speak to each other through Snapchat. Of course. That's how I used to talk to all of my friends when I was a kid, nowadays I very rarely use our landline and we don't often get calls on it however I still have one friend who still contacts me over landline even though he has a cellphone😂 Interesting. I still use our landline phone to speak to my Dad each night, or to abuse telemarketers who try to call us in the afternoons. Also, welcome back! Have you been busy at Uni?

It's been pretty chaotic recently so I haven't had alot of free time for much, but tbh I don't spend a lot of my time at uni very wisely - I don't have much self control.

I have used them, but not sure for talking with friends since pretty much everyone in my family had a cellphone by the mid-2000s, but we still used landlines for ordering food, talking to family members and when doing something business related. It's pretty interesting seeing how big landlines were throughout the 00s. I watched a video from a youtuber known as TheInsanneGameFreak from his alt account (TerellGammingVlogs) and he said he used landlines back when he was in high-school in 2009 (he was born in 1991). He said no one in his school had a cellphone even in the late 00s. By that time every teenager I knew had a cellphone, I don't remember anyone saying they'll call on a landline

They used to also come over to my parents house every second Saturday (I would go to theirs every other Saturday) to hang out...play computer games and such.

You'd have to be pretty young to have never used a landline to talk to your friends, like too young to be on Popedia.
