Year: 2013 (both) Sounds: 2002/03 (both) Now the production and vocals on these songs are pretty fresh and fit in 2013 when they were released, but the overall sound and melody and vibe of both these songs are very purposely early 2000s. Honestly I think “Baby I” would blend in perfectly in 2002/03 as it is. Nope. Malismatic R&B like this was nowhere near popular in the early 2000s as it was in the mid-90s. "Baby I" sounds like Fantasy-era Mariah Carey on an updated trap production. Her Ashanti-style vocals on "Thank U, Next" sound far closer to something from the early 2000s.

It has those dubstep drums and it's really similar to Midnight City.

This song is from 2021 but sounds like something from 2014, or anywhere from 2013-15

Freestyle single form Shana - I want you from late 1989. Feels like it could have come out in 1986 or 1987 maybe early 88 with that beat. Definitely not the freshest sounding music for 1989-1990.

Released: 1999 Sounds: 1994 Don't think I don't know what you did there. Well, it's heavily inspired by 80s rap. Yep, that literally sounds like a song by the Beastie Boys.

Released: 2021 Sounds: excluding the vocals the beat sounds pretty 2001 Don't think I ever heard a 2001 song sounding like that. Most rap songs in 2001 had a fairly relaxed thumping beat, not a fast, abrasive one with huge deep basses like that.
