Oh btw, im sure you would've really enjoyed my uni lecture today. There were many references to Ja'mie King made, lol. BTW, I chose to act out that monologue because that was me at school, because I had a "Who the hell are these dumb and mean bogans around me, and what the hell do I supposedly have in common in them that I somehow have to spend every weekday with them?" attitude to um, everyone else around me. Bogans? Did you go to Nowra High School or something?

Of course not, but that is actually a pretty good translation of a very specific local archetype.

s1.zetaboards.com/anthroscape/topic/5772897/1/There was that person snarking that my IRL issues with fitting in were caused by the fact I listened to Britney Spears. But in truth, many of the biggest bitches I've ever known had my music taste.

What does it have to do with the rest of the thread? Oops, I accidentally posted it in the wrong thread! I wanted to post it in this thread instead.

Decided to do a bit of an interesting experiment this afternoon. I'm personally Facebook friends with most of the people who were in my grade (Class of 2017). I was thinking back to that "Generation waves in pop culture" thread earlier today and I just thought that it would be interesting to make up a tally of the artists/bands that people around my age are into the most. As a result, I decided to actually do it. It didn't take me long to make this (as I already had a good idea of what artists/bands people in my year group liked). Rock:1. Blink-182 - 13 2. A Day To Remember - 12 3. I Prevail - 9 4. Fall Out Boy - 9 5. Linkin Park - 9 6. Nickelback - 9 ( ) 7. Paramore - 8 8. Slipknot - 7 9. Panic at the Disco - 7 10. Metallica - 7 11. The Amity Affliction - 6 12. System of a Down - 5 13. Bring Me The Horizon 14. My Chemical Romance - 5 15. Nirvana - 5 16. Iron Maiden - 5 17. Good Charlotte - 3 18. Pink Floyd - 3 19. KISS - 3 20. Foo Fighters - 2 Rock was actually quite popular with people in my grade, despite the fact that rock itself was largely absent from the mainstream while we were in high school. As you can see by the results, people my age are really into the Late 2000s Emo scene, which isn't surprising considering the fact that we were kids when it was popular. I honestly don't know why Slipknot have so many likes. I can't recall ever overhearing people play their music in class or out in the quad, so seeing that 7 people in my year group like their music comes as a complete surprise to me. Pop:1. Justin Bieber - 17 2. Miley Cyrus - 16 3. Katy Perry - 16 4. Bruno Mars - 13 5. Ariana Grande - 15 6. Black Eyed Peas - 15 7. Ed Sheeran - 13 8. Jason Derulo - 12 9. Rihanna - 11 10. Taylor Swift - 11 11. Adele - 10 12. One Direction - 10 13. Lady Gaga - 10 14. 5 Seconds of Summer - 9 15. Little Mix - 8 16. Guy Sebastian - 6 17. The Chainsmokers - 4 18. Maroon 5 - 4 19. Sam Smith - 2 20. Shawn Mendes - 2 Looking at these results really reinforces the idea that the Mid 2010s were our "era" in music. For comparison's sake, I also decided to look up many of the popular artists of the Late 2010s and see how many of my peers like their pages. Not one single person from my year group likes Billie Eilish's or Lil Nas X's pages. Rap:1. Eminem - 27 ( ) 2. Nicki Minaj - 15 ( ) 3. Lil Wayne - 12 ( ) 4. Iggy Azalea - 11 ( ) 5. Drake - 8 6. Tyler, The Creator - 8 7. 2Pac - 7 8. J Cole - 6 9. Kendrick Lamar - 6 10. Nelly - 5 11. Post Malone - 4 12. Travis Scott - 4 13. Macklemore - 4 14. Jay-Z - 3 15. Big Sean - 3 16. Lil Jon - 2 17. Machine Gun Kelly - 1 18. Migos - 1 19. Childish Gambino - 1 20. Future - 1 Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea all in the Top 4?! Holly hell, my year group has an absolutely awful taste in hip-hop. These results exert my belief that Trap (as a scene) is targeted at and is more popular with people born in the Early-Mid 2000s. There were one or two people in my grade who like certain Trap artists (e.g Future), but by and large, the vast majority of people my age were never able to get into it. Also, the fact that Eminem is so overwhelmingly ahead in the votes shows that the Class of 2017 identifies more with hip-hop popularised by Millennial culture.

My friends are between 12-16 years old. They listen to what is mainstream.
