Out of the 7 modern decades (the 1950s to 2010s), how would you rank them in terms of cheesiness overall? I know all of them had at least a handful of cheesy popular songs, but which seemed to have the most and least?
Here's how I'd rank them;
1. 1980s
2. 2010s
3. 1950s
4. 2000s
5. 1960s
6. 1990s
7. 1970s

I would rank them like this:
1. 1980s
2. 2010s
3. 1970s
4. 1990s
5. 1960s
6. 2000s
7. 1950s
IMO, it would make sense that the 1980s would generally be the most cheesy decade for music, considering how flamboyant and upbeat pop culture was at the time. The 2010s will likely be looked back on as being a 'cheesy' decade in 10-20 years time. To be honest, I actually think the '70s would rank within the Top-3. It may have been the peak for rock music, but a lot of the disco and r&b songs from the decade are quite cheesy.
The 1990s are ranked fourth, due to the popularity of house music, teen-pop and new-jack swing. I would actually consider the 1950s to be the least cheesiest decade for music.

Do you not think the '50s doo wop and rock and roll was cheesy?

How anyone can put the 50s, the decade where dreary, too self-serious pop like Frank Sinatra and Doris Day reigned supreme, above the 90s, the eurodance decade, is beyond me.

I don't really perceive the 1950s as being cheesy at all, to be honest. I mean sure, it is cheesy in the sense that the music is notably antiqued in comparison to the music of today. However, if I were to judge the music purely on face value and not compare it with music from more recent eras, it just doesn't seem cheesy for me at all. It's all subjective though.

1. 1980s 2. 1950s 3. 1970s 4. 1960s 5. 1990s 6. 2000s I think it's too early to rank the 2010s...
Were the 2010s really that cheesy? How so?

I don't see how anybody can rank the decade that gave us Vanilla Ice, Aqua, Eiffel 65, and Aaron Carter so low. Whilst the 2000s is notorious for being more angsty than cheesy, it also gave us artists like Soulja Boy, Nickelback, and The Black Eyed Peas that have a pretty good chance of being labelled as cheesy in the future. 2010s, I can see why it would be labelled as cheesy with the teen pop revival (Justin Bieber, One Direction, The Wanted), EDM (LMFAO, Psy), and the occassional Watch Me Whip type song, but the problem is that a lot of rap and pop in the 2010s wants to bbe more introspective and serious. Just the fact "purposeful pop" is a thing in this decade seems to suggest a generally negative viewpoint towards cheesiness. Rap was arguably cheesier in the 90s and 00s with both the pop rap scene with artists like MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and Sir Mix-A-Lot, and the ringtone rap scene with songs like Party Like a Rockstar, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Crank That Soulja Boy. 1970s is mixed because you have the disco scene which definitely has some cheesy music, but outside of that, the decade is more known for serious rock songs from the likes of Pink Floyd (the top-selling artist of the decade). Most of the classic rock and soft rock from this decade I wouldn't call cheesy. The closest you had was probably proto-hair metal type artists like Kiss and Van Halen. 1960s had the bubblegum pop scene and artists like The Archies. It also had quite a few novelty songs by artists like The Beatles and Frank Zappa, but I wouldn't really count those since they're MADE to be goofy and silly. 1950s is definitely the least cheesy. I think despite the decade having a rep of feel-good happiness, most of the music is slow, almost boring crooning-type music. Think Frank Sinatra and the like.

I don't get why people rank the 50s so low, most songs from the fifties are cheesy love songs witht the same chord progression and the same damn lyrics like "you're my angel" "love you forever" "my darling" cheesy as hell!

I take it back, the 1970s are easily the cheesiest decade of all time. The pop charts were just constant ditties over ditties. It's both a good and a bad thing
