Will a new artist emerge into the mainstream? Or perhaps a brand new music genre which will dominate the 2020s? I’m thinking of a rock revival and jazz influenced music, but that might just be wishful thinking.

I always thought that 2020 will be the 2020's year that is "2010's in everything but name alone" meaning that 2020 will still probably be heavily late 2010's culture IMO. Kind of like how 1990 was still heavily 80's culturally. I'd say late 2010's culture started right on time with its numerical definition in late 2016 when Trump got elected. The music of 2018 already sounds different from the music of 2015, especially hip-hop wise. I made a thread about this on inthe00s: I think we are definitely in the late 2010's music-wise.

Sorry, but it’s too early to predict this aside from some trends from today carrying over into the near future. I suggest locking this because it’s future-speculation, and these are exactly the types of threads that became such an overbearing problem on InThe00s. SharksFan99, you can reopen this thread if you disagree with me, but I don’t want to let decadeogy to start completely flooding this board, so I’d freeze it for the time being.

The moderation staff have come to the decision to lock this thread, as it has the potential to turn into a decadeology discussion. If you would like to talk about what music may be like in the year 2020, we do already have an "Artists of the 2020s" thread in the music sub-board, which goes into greater depth about this subject. There is also the "Predictions for the 2020s" thread in the What If? board. I don't think it was intended for this thread to be a form of decadeology and there's nothing wrong with discussing what the music scene may be like in the near future. However, the very nature of this thread could easily result in it becoming a thread based on arbitrary cut-offs. Please keep in mind that the "What If?" sub-board is for discussing your future predictions for pop culture.
