Hipster is far from over where I'm at Yeah, I think it's likely that the Hipster scene will have more longevity in major, cosmopolitan cities, even if the trend has been phased out elsewhere. I'm not sure if this is the case in North America, but even though the Hipster scene has declined in the past couple of years, the indie pop movement is still going strong on the Top-40 charts here.

Now that's a quite weird shift I've actually noticed it a bit. In 2013 those fringe black metal groups seemed very irrelevant, and not a lot of people really seemed to give a rat's ass about them. Unfortunately, due to the surge of fringe politics in recent years, you may hear about non-fringe black metal groups (Moonsorrow, Borknagar, Eluveitie, Begerith) getting disrupted by protestors. Even though I am not a fan of black metal, it's sad to see this happen because those groups seem to put in a lot of effort and hard work in making their music. I heard that this issue got so bad that some even cancel their shows. However, when you get to the fringe bands like the ones I mentioned, then I don't feel bad if their shows get protested. The whole environment change between 2013 and 2018 was very big for just five years. Well, that's unfortunate. I like Black Metal, more than any other Metal subgenre but It's quite saddening that some of it has the absolute worst chosen aesthetics possible. NSBM is a big no-no, and the whole hatred for humankind is tacky overdone terribleness. Black Metal should be lo-fi satan-goat-sex-demon-shrieks weirdness and nothing more.

Indie pop/rock/electronica is popular in my personal experience. For some reason it doesn't show up in the charts though. Now that the weather is more firmly warm here and people aren't covering up in layers, it's more obvious that the hipster trend is still going strong here. Undercuts and other heavy stylized hair, unnaturally coloured hair (for women mostly), skinny jeans, plaid shirts, very fly/artsy looking shoes etc. All the stuff is still going strong here.
