I would say 2014-15 was the most definitive. Everything about the 2010s made up that school year. Instagram, Snapchat, hipsters, trap, EDM music.

Due to being in the Southern Hemisphere, here in Australia, our school years start at the end of January and finish in mid-December. As a result, I will just say which year I generally consider to be the most definitive year of the 2010s. From my perspective, I would say that 2015 was the most definitive. I know it's completely subjective, but it definitely felt that way to me. I was 16 years old at the time and in Year 10.

I think the 2014-2015 school year was the most definitive IMO. As you mentioned, that was when Vine, Snapchat, and Instagram were at their peak and trap music was extremely popular as well, with songs like "Trap Queen", "679", and "Jumpman".

2015-2016, since it was still the Obama era and was still a big time for the decade’s early culture, but it was also when the alt-right became truly significant for the first time, albeit still wrestling with the old establishment filibuster Republicans of the early 2010s. It was also the last school year during which David Cameron was the British Prime Minister.

I'd say the 2015-2016 school year.
The reason I say this is because this was the last full school year of Obama's presidency, and talk about the 2016 U.S. was everywhere, and everyone had strong opinions on Donald Trump. This was another golden age of memes, such as Pepe the frog, why you always lying, and Damn Daniel. This was my favorite school year, and I was in 8th grade.

Politically, 2016-2017, because November 9, 2016 was the most impactful day of the 10s politically speaking.
Pop culturally, I'd say 2014-2015, because that's when Taylor Swift's "1989" was dominating.
Average is therefore 2015-2016, aka my senior year.

So which school year is more quintessential culturally? 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 school year?

I would say 2012-2013 school year and 2015-2016 school year I'm not sure about the 2012-2013 school year, to be honest. That school year was transitional culturally from early 2010's culture to mid-2010's culture. I think the 2013-2014 school year is the earliest school year that I can see being quintessential IMO.

PS4 and Xbox One didn't even come out yet in 2012-2013, so nah, DEFINITELY not
