Let's say you got to pick how 2010's culture went. How would it change from what it is now? As for me, I'm not exactly sure but I would add more diversity to the charts. I'd make the billboards have a lot more music genres charting than just EDM and trap. I would make rock still popular and I'd also change how the pop music was in 2014 because that was honestly the worst year for music in the 2010's IMO. I'd make phones have a mini keyboard with them, like this: {Spoiler}

To be honest, there's actually not a whole lot that I would change about the 2010s. I like the basic premise of 2010s pop culture, just not how it has panned out. The main thing I would change would be the diversity of the Top-40 music charts. In such a scenario, I would make psychedelia become a popular genre of the Late 2010s. It would emerge shortly after Donald Trump announced he would be running for President and we would currently be within the genre's peak.

Trump NEVER should have been President of the United States in the first place. Also, does psychedelic music have to exist just because of there being a protest culture? The genre was inspired more by the wacky places drugs took musicians' creativity than anything else, hence its name.

I agree that Trump never should have been elected as President in the first place, however his election campaign and presidency are not prime examples of 2010s pop culture. Even if music, movies and TV shows were different in an alternate 2010s, social attitudes would have remained the same and Donald Trump would have still become the President of the United States. For that scenario to have occurred, the 2000s would have had to pan out differently, to ensure that we would be in a different political climate. No, it does not. What I would like to see, however, is more socially conscious compositions return to the mainstream, which is why I would have liked to have seen psychedelia make a return of sorts.

I just don't see psychedelic music as inherently political. Punk is probably closer to that, but even within the punk genre, there are plenty of subgenera that are more likely to focus on non-political topics.

For instance, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is often considered to be one of the defining anthems of the psychedelic rock movement of the Late '60s, yet it was inspired by a drawing that Julian Lennon had made at school. It did not have a political agenda to it at all. I do agree that Punk is another creative avenue to express political-driven messages. However, due to how over-commercialised the music industry is, if Punk were to make a return to the mainstream, it would most likely be in the form of a Blink-182 or an "Emo scene" style of band. I couldn't imagine a Punk band in the form of Green Day or The Offspring (both of whom address societal and political themes) emerging into the mainstream, because their music wouldn't be as marketable.

I love the way the 2010s panned out, I just wish Hillary won instead of Trump and the alt-right or ISIS never happened. Other than that, it's been a really fun decade.
