What are years that you didn't seem to appreciate while it was happening, but look back on fondly now?
I think one of these years would have to be 2014, especially the early and mid part. While I do talk about how boring my personal life in 2014 was, I do miss hanging out with friends online and in real life. Summer of 2014 was mostly boring in terms of my personal life, but at least I got my second dog for my 12th birthday. The reason why I didn't like 2014 was that it was the first year that feels removed from my childhood, as I was firmly in middle school and had more work to do. Also, my grandfather died in September of that year, so all my grandfathers were dead.
I got to visit New York in December 2014, which was a nice way to end a boring and quite depressing year.

2015 because i went to the Zoo, Beach and went on a road trip that year had a cook out in May of that year also. I recently hated the year because of middle school and getting into the fight. My 11th birthday was fine i just ate ice cream and cake.

Probably 2007, I guess. With only being 8 years old at the time, I never stopped to consider the fact that pop culture and life (in general) could change so significantly in the next few years. In retrospect, 2007 has a bit of a special aurora to it, given the fact that I went to my first live concert, I fell in love for the first time and from a 2018 perspective, I perceive it as being a time that was so much better than the present day.
At the time though, everything just seemed "normal" and I didn't give the pop culture of the time a second thought. Regularly hearing bands such as Fall Out Boy, The Veronicas, Linkin Park and Panic at the Disco! on Top-40 radio was to be expected. I never would have considered the prospect that rock would have such a diminished presence in the next 11 years. Obviously, if I had of known what life and pop culture would be like in 2018, I would have appreciated the "world of 2007" even more.

1984 because it wasn't really as bad as I thought. It was an improvement on 1983 and definitely better than 1985 (the worst year of my life).

In regards to this thread, I could probably say the same thing about all of my childhood years, to be honest.

Is it because you were still in high school?

Every year since about 2003 I always paid attention to certain key elements I remember from each year. The year I probably took for granted the most is 2010 because while it wasn't my favorite year it did set the tone for what the 2010s will become.

2016. I won't go into detail, but long story short, I started middle school for the first time ever and I didn't get a chance to appreciate or value that year when it was present. My transition from elementary to middle school was all about stricter teachers, more homework, no recess, puberty, and an earlier school time, my big pivotal transition was difficult to adapt to. During my first few weeks I dreaded my next couple of years in middle school and my future in general, and I didn't stop to think that my life would get easier and better. All in all, 2016 was an exceptionally good year.

I dunno, I guess 2011. While I enjoyed 2010 for the most part, 2011 was a pretty downer-year for me. In my second year of middle school, lots of my friends from the previous year changed school and thus I was alone quite often. I disliked my class at the time, and was just generally shy and quiet for the rest of the year with them, and didn't enjoy the direction I took that same year. Luckily my transition to High School in September 2011 I started to reaffirm myself and made a few close friends, and also was in a more enjoyable direction too.
So yeah, I guess I would have like to experience 2011 not being hurt by middle school.

In my second year of middle school, lots of my friends from the previous year changed school and thus I was alone quite often. That's the worst thing about transitioning between schools. You can lose a lot of friends in the process and a lot of the time you have no means of maintaining contact with them. A similar thing happened to me when I started High School. My closest friend in Year 6 went to a different High School to me, which meant that I spent my first two weeks of High School by myself, for the most part.

Yeah, I think I can remember you mentioning once before that 1999-2001 are your favourite years from your childhood. Just out of curiosity, what do you like about 2005? You don't have to go into detail about it if you don't want to.

When I was 11 I took 2008-2012 for granted, saying the years sucked because Jetix and Toon Disney went away, Nickelodeon went on a decline and I also said Disney went downhill (I described it as "Disney fell like the twin towers"). In reality I have grown to have a warm spot for the late 2000s and early 2010s. I never thought hard enough about the culture when I was an 11 year old. Now I look back and see the late 2000s and early 2010s to be awesome. The music on the radio wasn't great, sure, but it wasn't as bad as it is now. The video game industry was in a much better state back then. The chances of seeing microtransactions in games released back then were highly unlikely (unless you count DLC in the equation). And well my personal life was much better. It was the last time of my life before middle school, and I was less stressed out. I still had my old friends and I didn't have to deal with puberty yet (I was 8-10 in 2010-2012). After 2012 I was a completely different person.
