The federal government is looking at ways to improve the education system in the country and one recommendation is to increase the amount of composite classes in public schools, so that specialised learning is encouraged. What's your opinion of composite classes? Do you think they benefit students in any way?
This topic of discussion interests me, because I was in a composite class for Years 4-6 at primary school. I was in the "Advanced" class, which was a composite class for the best-performing kids in Years 4, 5 and 6. I can only speak from my own personal experience, but composite classes don't support specialised learning. If anything, they only make it worse. I can remember being in Year 6 and the small group of Year 4 kids in the class received the most attention from our teacher. A lot of the time, I would just chat to a couple of my friends, because we finished the work early and we had nothing better to do.

I've never been in a composite class so I don't actually know what its like, but it seems that teaching them may be kinda difficult due to the age range. But on the other hand, it could also be good for students to have the opportunity of sharing classes with older kids just to see what its like and to see them as role models.
