As I'm new here and can see that there's largely a US population, my question as a Coldplay fan is how are they received in the States and elsewhere?
In the UK they are both loved and hated (largely due to the dirginess of their songs and Chris Martin's whiney vocals).
I love enough songs by now to make a best of album (12 tracks) but don't include favourites like Clocks and Paradise (I hear these as too repetitive and get on my nerves somewhat).
However, there's a recent song called Everglow which is currently my favourite and there are anthems like Fix You and Yellow from the earlier years that for me still stand the test of time.

Coldplay are pretty popular here in Australia. Although they have yet to achieve a chart-topping hit in the country, they have had several Top-10 hits over the course of their career. Just for a bit of trivia, the music video of "A Sky Full of Stars" was actually shot in an inner-city suburb of Sydney!
I'm personally not a fan of their work, to be honest. I think the main reason for that, is because of the constant airplay songs such as "Clocks", Fix You", "Viva la Vida" and "Paradise" received at the time of their releases. It turned me off from their music and as a result, I've never particularly liked any of their songs.

Not Fix You however, for me that is some masterpiece. Each to their own eh? As you're in Australia, which are your favourite Aussie bands? I particularly liked The Saints, Icehouse and even, yes, even Savage Garden!

I love Coldplay. One of my fave bands. Viva La Vida is awesome. And Yellow. I'd turn for Chris Martin.

My favourite Australian bands are Silverchair and Spiderbait. I like plenty of other songs by Australian artists/bands, but the two bands I mentioned are the only two in which I own their albums and like more than just a handful of songs. I agree that Icehouse are a great band. My favourite song of theirs would have to be "I Can't Help Myself". Not sure about Savage Garden though. I wouldn't be too disappointed if I never heard any of their songs again.

Paul (above) said he'd turn for Chris but I'm not sure I'd turn even for Gwynneth!
Here's another good reminder of Icehouse...

To be honest,, if I was a Coldplay fan, I would be a bit disappointed about their most recent song, "Something Just Like This". It sounds nothing like their earlier songs and by collaborating with The Chainsmokers, it creates the impression that the band have "sold out".
