Yesterday afternoon, I heard on the news that Victorian councils (councils from the state of Victoria) are considering banning books based on gender roles from schools and libraries. If the proposal goes through, that means any book that contains the words "boy" and "girl" will be banned. Thomas the Tank Engine, Barbie and Bob the Builder would all be banned, in such a scenario. I can't believe we've gotten to a point where something so ridiculous is seriously being considered and receiving national media coverage.
Will political correctness ever be addressed or are we just doomed to live in a world where any little difference is discouraged? Surely we can't neutralize everything? While we do all share similarities in many ways, our own differences make us unique, as human beings. Differences do exist in life and that is never going to change. By neutralizing our differences, it has a detrimental impact on ones identity and the concept of individuality. I don't see how banning books based on gender is going to benefit kids in any way.

That's a good point. Although, the general mindset over political correctness still remains. This should never have even been thought of, in my opinion. Banning the terms "boy" and "girl" won't change anything.
