I would be interesting to hear other people's opinions on this topic. After reading more information about the case and watching Montage of Heck, i'm now really skeptical about the final verdict that Kurt Cobain took his own life. To me, there is enough evidence to suggest that he was the victim of foul play, whether it be murder or something else entirely. Here are a few reasons as to why I believe that to be the case: * Courtney Love accidentally left her handbag at her attorney's house just days before Kurt passed away. Later, her handbag was found to have had a handwriting practice sheet in it. What's even more disturbing, is the fact that the final four lines in Kurt's suicide note look distinctively different. It's almost as if someone just added in those lines as an after-thought. Handwriting experts have confirmed that the rest of the note was indeed written by Kurt, but there isn't a consensus about the final four lines. Also, if you read the note, it seems like he is simply signaling his intention of leaving Nirvana and the music industry, which he was in fact considering at the time. * Shortly after Kurt's death, a Seattle musician who went by the stage name, El Duce, claimed that Courtney Love offered him $50,000 to murder Kurt and stage it as a suicide. He even passed polygraph tests attesting to the claim. Just two years later, El Duce died in suspicious circumstances, allegedly passing out on railway tracks and being ran over by a train. I highly doubt that was a coincidence. * His interviews in the months before his death. I know it's possible that he may have been putting on a facade, but his interviews don't suggest that he was in a suicidal frame of mind. In the interview above, he even acknowledged that he was really content with his life and he talked about his future plans with Nirvana, such as moving away from three-chord Grunge music. * The amount of heroin that was in his system at the time of his death. It was three times the legal dose, which means that it would have been impossible for him remove the syringe, place it back in a box, pick up a shotgun and use it on himself. Conveniently, the investigation found that there were no fingerprints on the shotgun, which is incredibly suss. If Kurt had taken his own life, his fingerprints should have still been on the shotgun.

It's pretty clear that he committed suicide.
The idea that he was murdered, in my opinion, is just a conspiracy theory.

I think there's enough evidence to at least question the final verdict of suicide. Some things just don't stack up, in my opinion, such as Courtney Love having a handwriting practice sheet in her handbag at the time of his death. I personally don't think Courtney Love murdered Kurt, but I think she may have played an indirect part in any foul play.

He was taken back by his alien race to be reunited with his peoples and make alien punk music, and the body left behind was a decoy.

Kurt was by himself when he took his own life. This was really the result of numerous pressures torturing the man, not any specific foul play. While Courtney's abusive treatment of Cobain was certainly a major factor that led to this point, there were also severe issues with drugs, the stress of mega-fame, and a difficult upbringing that were primary causes for Cobain's dilapidated mindset.

Is it even a question? In other news, I preferred his wife's band.

While Courtney's abusive treatment of Cobain was certainly a major factor that led to this point, there were also severe issues with drugs, the stress of mega-fame, and a difficult upbringing that were primary causes for Cobain's dilapidated mindset. I agree that Courtney wasn't a good match for him (in terms of personality, she was basically the complete opposite of Kurt), but it's clear that they loved and cared for each other a lot. I'm not sure the extent to which their unhealthy relationship would truly have played a role in the case of suicide. In the interview I linked in my original post (which I would highly recommend watching), Kurt does not express any discontent of Courtney; he even mentioned that his baby and marriage are what still excite him. The interview is from August 1993, so it was only filmed a few months before his death. Many people have suggested that Kurt was commercially worth more dead than he was alive, which I think is entirely plausible, given how much his name and legacy have been exploited since his death. There are also reports that Kurt was contemplating divorcing Courtney shortly before the time of his passing. I certainly wouldn't put it past Courtney to have a role in any type of foul play, especially if the rumours about Kurt considering leaving the music industry are true. Not only would Courtney have lost her fame in the spotlight, she wouldn't reap the benefits of the money Kurt earned as a rock star. It's a known fact that Courtney would get mad at Kurt when he chose not to attend gigs (which would have earned him millions of dollars) in favour of staying home and painting. To me, there isn't solid evidence to make a strong case for the final verdict of suicide. I'm not sure what your opinion of the suicide note is, but I personally believe it was simply signalling his intention of leaving Nirvana and the music industry. There are too many inconsistencies and misleading reports for me to truly believe that the suicide verdict is correct.

I mentioned this on the Popedia Instagram account earlier, but today marks 25 years since Kurt tragically took his own life. Honestly, the fact that Kurt died at the age that he did really hits home for me personally, because he was only four months older than my Dad and it leaves me thinking that if Kurt was still alive today, he would have been around the same age as my parents (early-mid '50s). He actually reminds me of my Dad in some ways as well, as they were both born in the same year (1967), both INFPs, both massive fans of The Beatles and both like Grunge/alt-rock. It just emphasises how much he has truly missed out on since his life was cut short. Also, as I have personally gotten older, I've realised more and more how young 27 really is. This is strange to think about, but it would be like if I suddenly passed away in just 7 years time. Seven years is nothing.
