Inspired by the 2013 thread cooldudez made. I wanted to talk about 2014 because I feel as if it's easily the most underrated year of the 2010's, and I will admit, I used to hate this year both pop culturally and personally. I'm actually listening to hip-hop songs from 2014 as I'm typing this. When I look back, 2014 actually really wasn't that bad pop culturally and I change my mind for saying it was the worst year for music of the 2010's. 2014 had a lot of good things, like "Main Chick" by Chris Brown (That's the song I'm listening to right now as I'm typing this ) and "Fun" by Pitbull. I also really liked "Mmm Yeah" by Austin Mahone. I used to listen to that song a lot back in 2014 and it brings back a lot of memories. 2014 was still decent personally even though it doesn't hold a candle to 2013. I got my second dog for my birthday, made some friends, but I didn't really do much that summer though. But it really wasn't as bad looking back now. I don't think any year in my life so far has been as bad as 2016.

2014 was one of the worst years of my life so I definitely have a huge, totally unfair bias against it from the get-go. But even with that out of way, the fact I started to follow pop culture very closely in 2013, 2014 pop culture seemed strangely unpleasant to me so I backed off for most of it (fortunately it picked up again by the end of the year). I for instance just couldn't stand most music hits back then which didn't help my situation in any way, I gladly will accept the worst songs of 2018 over what we had back then on a weekly basis. I also had very little interest in the movies and series of back then (which I somewhat wish now I had more, as I totally passed on some things like the Gone Girl craze or Interstellar which was super hyped by the movie nerds).

2014 wasn't a bad year for me as such, but I have a few really unpleasant memories from that year. I was 15 years old and I had really bad acne at the time. My acne was so bad, that I had pimples on my back and shoulder blades as well. Laying on my back basically felt like laying on a pile of rocks, it was awful. I don't have any nostalgia for 2014, in all honesty, not just because of how recent it is, but I haven't really changed much since then either. It's not like being nostalgic for my childhood years and noticing all the differences between then and the present time.

2014 was, in my opinion, when America started to become more divided than what it used to be (Elliot Rodger, Michael Brown, Ferguson, ISIS, SJW vs. Alt-right, etc).

At least Trump wasn't a household name. Trump has been a household name since the 1980s/1990s, actually. I'm not even American but I used to watch his show 'The Apprentice' in the mid-2000s (I'm ashamed to say I used to look up to him as a successful businessman ); and he was always huge tabloid and gossip fodder even before and after that. He also made a brief appearance in the movie Home Alone, which I'm sure a majority of Americans have watched.

Yeah, but at least back in 2014, it was still possible to watch the news without hearing the name "Trump".

Mediocre, but not as bad as 2013. It wasn't an absolutely horrible year, but it was just so forgettable.

2014 was, in my opinion, when America started to become more divided than what it used to be (Elliot Rodger, Michael Brown, Ferguson, ISIS, SJW vs. Alt-right, etc). 2014 was pretty much a continuation of 2013 in my opinion. Obama's second term in its entirety was defined by escalating polarization in this country, primarily over the issues of religion, race, and sexual orientation, culminating in Trump's election. It was the beginning of the dark and bleak time politically that we are still in today. 2014 was the year that same-sex marriage bans started falling like dominoes and the year of iStandSunday, a massive anti-LGBT rally in Houston that was streamed live to evangelical churches across the nation. Personally, 2014 was one of the worst years of my life, second only to 2013.
