It's 39.7C here at the moment and it's only 11am. I've got to work this afternoon and stand out in the sun (with no shade)...if I don't log back on after 3.30pm, you'll know that I've melted due to the extreme heat and died of heat exhaustion.

It was a warm Christmas. The snow managed to stick to the ground though, so I think it will still be recorded as a "white Christmas" even though I saw some grass here and there. I've been hearing a lot about the bush fires in Australia. I hope you're all doing okay.

I've been hearing a lot about the bush fires in Australia. I hope you're all doing okay. Thanks. The closest fire (which ironically is just south of Nowra of all places) is only a little over an hour south from where I live. There was also another fire which was about an hour away to the west, although I think it has since been contained. The thing that worries me the most though is our water supply. On top of the east coast of Australia literally going up in flames, many parts of the country are also going through a severe drought and some towns here in NSW have already ran out of water. Sydney's dam levels are now below 45%. If weather patterns don't change, Sydney could run out of water in as little as two years, possibly even sooner. This is why it baffles me as to how there are still people out there who continue to believe that climate change isn't a cause for concern. You can pinpoint examples of climate change in almost every corner of the world, from average maximum temperatures increasing over a 10+ year period, to the arctic glaciers melting. Yet, so many people have cotton-wool over the eyes and stubbornly deny the facts presented to them, despite the signs of climate change being more evident than they ever were in the past.

Hope everyone in the Illawarra area is staying safe and coping! Are the air quality levels similar to the terrible levels in Sydney at the moment? I don't think I would be able to live there in conditions like that. However here in Melbourne, it's been a little hazy over the past few days because of the smoke from NSW, but luckily nothing terrible yet.

Just looking at all the state forecasts, the east coast of Australia is going to be baking tomorrow with really extreme conditions. 40C+, gusty winds and dry thunderstorms, terrible combination that. Something the firefighters are absolutely dreading as you’d expect as existing fires are still active across large areas of NSW, SA and Victoria. Any new outbreaks started are going to be unstoppable with those conditions. Sadly, this is still only just the beginning of a very long summer I feel.

We're only about an hour south of Sydney, so a lot of the smoke has drifted down here as well. It's unavoidable. There are bushfires down on the South Coast and on the western outskirts of Sydney, which has meant that the smoke haze has been blanketing large parts of the state. The Illawarra Mercury reported earlier this afternoon that a new fire has ignited in Berrima (a town in the Southern Highlands) and it only got to about 30C here today. These next few days are going to be hellish for the firefighters.

There's a fire right now in Bundoora, only 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. Completely suburban area, not urban fringe.
Scary stuff.

31C and a very smokey haze here at the moment. The entire NSW coastline from Nowra to the Victorian border (350kms of coastline) is at emergency level. The fires have now reached Sussex Inlet, which is only an hour and a half south from where I live:

Over here it's been a relatively warm December, with day temperatures around 0°C-10°C. All the November snow has melted away. If it weren't for the sun setting at 4PM I would have thought it was spring.

^Wow, that’s really bad...so sad for all the animals Weather here was a much more comfortable 25C and sunny today. Yep, apparently close to 500 million animals have been lost so far due to the current bushfires. I read somewhere the other day that 8,000 koalas have been killed, with 30% of the entire koala population of NSW’s mid-north coast region having perished. Even rare species of animals and plants are feared lost and could be considered extinct. Pretty devastating stuff. We are travelling up to northern Victoria on a holiday tomorrow, on a terrible day. Thankfully, not an area with fire right now but it is relatively concerning, especially with a 'State of Disaster' put into place for some of Victoria.
