According to the forecast, there is a 50% chance of it raining here tommorow. I like when it rains in the winter time but I prefer it not to rain near summer. Same. Usually when it rains close to or during summer, it becomes humid, which isn't a good thing. Really hot at the moment. Hot few days ahead too. Mid 30s (Celsius) and not even Summer yet. That's no good. Although, I think I heard on the news that a cool change may come into South Australia sometime next week, so hopefully that will drop the temperatures down a bit.

Currently 13.3 degrees at 6.55am and going for a top of 21 degrees and cloudy today. Will heat up as the week goes on with temps around the mid to high 20s. Still no substantial rainfall forecast into next week so the long dry spell continues for us.

Crazy day today in terms of weather. Started out with clear skies, then huge Cumunolimbus formed all over the region resulting in over 600 lightning strikes in the area and multiple hailstorms!

And that is they very annoying thing about weather in Australia, the rapid changes in temperature. In the middle of summer a few years ago, I was visiting Melbourne and by mid afternoon the temperature was reaching around 40C! Then, the winds changed direction all of a sudden and that temprature dropped over 20C degrees in a very short amount of time. It then remained this way for the next few days with light rain- felt more like winter than the Middle of January.

I think the extreme weather changes in Australia is purely due to the size of the country and the varying climates. Vast areas of the country are arid, while the northern parts are tropical. Weather systems can carry these conditions into temperature climate areas, such as Sydney and Melbourne. New Zealand only experiences a temperate climate, meaning that the weather stays much more consistent and isn't prone to such extreme changes.

In fact most areas of the South Island in NZ are subject to rapid temperature changes aswell, this is Becasue the Southern Alps mountain range creates a foehn effect with the wind and can make the temperature rapidly rise within a few minutes if going in the right direction. However, the closer position to the Southern Ocean means it is also exposed to cold fronts which can bring the temperature down very quickly. Although where I live remains very consistent in terms of temperatures, never getting too hot or cold.

Though it only got to a cool top of 13-14 degrees today, come Friday (today) and into the weekend and then next week the temps will rapidly climb back up to the mid to high 20s again! Summerlike temps have come pretty early for us this year.

It's the fourth day of winter. Fourth day of summer for australia/tasmania. Sorry? Summer doesn’t “officially” start for us for about 2 1/2 weeks still. December, January and February are our summer months. Mind you, Tassie’s summer months are more like towards the end of January then February and into late March/early April.
