This is a topic that I have been passionate about for years, so I am interested to hear other peoples opinions of it.
I personally think circuses, of all forms, should be completely banned. In this day and age, they serve very little purpose. The way in which many circuses mistreat animals to provide cheap-quality entertainment is sickening. I have traveled past several circuses over the years and more often than not, I have seen lions trapped in cages whilst the circus is not in operation. It's disgraceful. How are these companies still allowed to continue violating animal rights?
While I am aware that not all circuses offer animal acts, I still believe they have no role in contemporary 21st Century society. Circuses are a relic of a bygone era, they should be phased out.

As a vegan and animal rights campaigner, I say yes.

I agree with you. Wild animals do not belong in tiny cages.

I haven't really been to a circus before but based on what I've read, I do think it would be a good idea to ban them.

I whole heartedly agree with all the above. I've always wanted to see them done away with.
The animals should never have to suffer just for 'human's entertaintment.
Be gone with it pronto!

Yep, I agree with everything that has been said.
I can't believe nothing has ever been done about it though. I mean, i'm sure there would be animal rights activists who have campaigned about banning circuses for good, but as far as I am aware, it hasn't been seriously considered at a higher level. There have been very little changes in policy to ensure that the well-being of the animals aren't at risk.

I took my kids to see a circus last year and we loved it. they had no animal acts and thankfully no clowns. But the girls still had a blast

Circuses these days are basically just acrobatics and light shows. The last time I've seen caged wild animals for performances was actually at a county fair! There were big cats in a cage as well as dogs trained to do tricks (kept separate obviously). The dogs I don't see a problem with, but whatever act involved a tiger would have been dangerous, which is what was in the cage. Lion taming and such acts are a recipe for disaster and obviously need to go.

Not all circuses should be banned, Circe du soleil doesn't employ any animals for instance, only human acrobats making up for wonderful artistic prestations. This kind of format should be more widespread among circuses in general.
What definitely should be banned is the usage of large animals like elephants and lions which are not properly taken care of at best and very commonly mistreated. A better regulation should also be put into place when it comes into the health and well-care of other more common show animals like horses. Have heard in very little countries stuff like animal inspection aren't put in place which is pretty shoking.
