It's really starting to dawn on me that the Mid 2000s are so long ago now. In a little over 5 months, 2004 will be 15 years old! Anyway, I thought this might be an interesting idea for a thread, as there are a lot of Early-Mid 2000s babies on the internet now and the Mid 2000s are 12-14 years ago, so people's recollection of the era may not be as clear as it once was. Put your memory to the test and see how many of the events you can remember: * The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami * Crazy Frog * Pluto reclassified as a dwarf-planet * Athens 2004 Olympic Games * Hurricane Katrina * 2005 London Bombings * 2006 FIFA World Cup * Steve Irwin's death * Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton's peak in popularity * The launch of the Xbox 360, PS3 and/or Nintendo Wii. Final Score: 9/10 I can personally remember all of the events above, except for the launch of the 7th Generation of consoles. I remember when they were new, but not when they were first released to the public.

My score is 1/10.
The only ones I remember are the Wii and PS3 commercials.

I got 5/10.
I don't really remember much of 2004. The events I can remember are;Crazy Frog (which Shark knows I'm a BIG fan of), Pluto's reclassification, Hurricane Katrina (mostly just adults around me discussing it), Steve Irwin's death, and the launch of the Wii.

* The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami * Crazy Frog* Pluto reclassified as a dwarf-planet * Athens 2004 Olympic Games * Hurricane Katrina * 2005 London Bombings * 2006 FIFA World Cup* Steve Irwin's death * Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton's peak in popularity * The launch of the Xbox 360, PS3 and/or Nintendo Wii. 2.7/10. I was a huge fan of Crazy Frog, I remember going with my dad and sister to buy some flags for the world cup, I remember tagging along with my brothers when they went to buy a PS3 when it was released, and I remember by sister begging my dad for a Wii when it was released (but we only ended up getting it in 2010 ). I have some pretty clear memories of summer 2005 though. My family and I when on this super cool and long road trip, and I remember most of the stuff we visited. We went to a zoo and I got too close to a monkey in a cage and he scratched the f out of my cheek .

Just out of curiosity, do you have any memories of watching the 2006 World Cup or can you just remember going to buy flags with your Dad and Sister?

I feel the picks are a bit arbitrary as you had to heavily follow news and stuff for some of them. For example I didn't know who Steve Irwin was until a few years ago. I also never really cared about Olympic games until the London one, so of course I have no memories of it The tsunami was the first major big natural disaster that marked me, it's was very shoking to see as it was a very new thing to see. Because of it I got heavily into geology following it because watching documentaries about made me so interested in it. So yeah I definitely remember it. I also remember Katrina and the London bombings (it was with a bus right?) very vividly. I also remember the PS3 launch very well, because at the time I was still very into PS2 gaming. I didn't nearly cared about the Wii to say the same about (I mean I never cared about Nintendo launches for reason, I don't remember the Switch one to tell you how much). The pluto one was quite heart-breaking cuz I was into astronomy back then and suddenly all my favorite books about space were outdated . I remember the press talking a lot about Paris Hilton but not so much Lindsay Lohan 8/10 apparently

10/10 for me. But given my age, I would!
Mister Ellis (my beloved cat) was born on Saint Stephen's Day 2004, the day of the tsunami.

I don't actually remember who was playing though 😅.

I tried to make it as non-geographic specific as possible, so I decided to base it more on general events rather than anything cultural. Speaking of the reclassification of Pluto, I was really interested in astronomy at the time as well! I didn't agree with the decision to reclassify it as a dwarf-planet and I still don't, to be honest.

2/10 was 2-4 during this period, so although I have a number of memories, I certainly wasn't super aware of much happening
