May 2013 was my last month of 5th grade and elementary school as a whole. A lot of users on here were at least in some grade during this time, whether it be elementary, middle, or high school. When dividing the 2010's into equal thirds, this would be the start of the Mid 2010's. Here's a collage of photos I found, none of which are mine. This is my first time doing an atmosphere thread, so tell me how I did!

Some of it looks dated, some do not look that dated.

I was 14 and in Year 8 when those photos were taken. In regards to the thread, I think you did a good job with finding the images, but like @ghost mentioned, some of them don't look noticeably dated yet.

*Musical.ly, one of the largest Gen Z apps (Loren Gray, Baby Ariel, Jamie Rose, Cole LaBrant, the Mantler twins, and Jayden Croes are all famous Zeds that use Musical.ly) did not exist yet in 2013.

Politically, it is somewhat disagreeable:
*It was the last year before SJWs and the Alt-right.
*ISIS was not heard of yet.
*Even though Black Lives Matter started in 2013, it would become much more prevalent in 2014, especially after the shooting of Michael Brown.
*The Ebola crisis was unheard of in the US until March 2014.
*Crimea was still unheard of in 2013.
*Even though Colorado and Washington legalized recreational marijuana use in 2012, there were still no legal recreational sales of marijuana until 2014.
*Altogether, 2013 still felt "normal", especially in comparison with the years that came after.

Conclusion:
2013 is definitely "core 2010's", but to say that it was completely 2010's is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
*If there was a 90's equivalent of 2013, it'd probably be 1992.
*If there was a 2000's equivalent of 2013, it'd probably be 2003.

2013 was definitely removed from the 2000's. The "cheesiness" of that year doesn't mean it wasn't completely 2010's, because "cheesy" is mostly subjective. Musical.ly was barely heard of in 2014 also, it came out in August of that year, so we were already more than halfway through 2014 when it got released.

You base most of your reasons on politics. When people say 2013 is "completely removed from the 2000's" they are usually referring to pop culture, not politics.

I would have to disagree, to be honest. The very few residual influences from the 2000s were completely overshadowed by the pop cultural and geopolitical elements of the 2010s. The world of 2013 was undeniably 2010s. Honestly, i'd argue that the last year which still felt significantly connected to the 2000s was the year 2010.
