2009, IMO. There's only about 4-5 songs from 2009 that I actually like.

Oh 2006 definitely. Laffy Taffy, Chain Hang Low, & Sexyback are one of the few songs of 2006 that I absolutely hate. 2009 gets a lot of hate but in comparison to 2006 it was truly AMAZING! In fact, 2009 is my 2nd favorite year of music in the 2000s. The late 2000s is so underrated.

I can understand why many Americans would consider 2006 to be the worst year for music of the naughties. The Billboard charts were absolutely abysmal that year and if i'm not mistaken, 2006 was also the peak of snap/ringtone-rap, so you had hits such as "Laffy Taffy" and "Lean wit it, Rock wit it". Here in Australia, 2006 was a mixed bag for music, however it did have it's fair share of good songs. The ARIA Charts were generally a lot better than the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

2006 was fairly nice here in Europe🤷 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯🤷, no snap, just total focus on Crazy, cool Nelly Furtado singles and Shakira whose hips don't lie. I think people overreact here a bit. Also Sexyback is a major bop you heathens.
Went with 2009, never really cared that much about the hit singles and some of them were very overplayed and pretty annoying (looking at you Boom Boom Pow).

Yeah, snap-rap was never a movement here either (thankfully). I only listened to "Laffy Taffy" for the first time a couple of months ago.

2006. If there's one song to represent that year it's this.

2005-2008 were just not for me at all. I'm going to go with 2006 as the worst of the bunch, but 2005 and 2007 come close.

2006 may have had the highest number of bad songs, but 2008 was not only contaminated with horrible tracks, it also had far fewer songs to redeem its mediocre overall level. '06 at least had songs like these:
2008, on the other hand, was just miserably safe. Big-sounding drums with solid syncopation were totally wasted on some of the most Maroon 5 compositions ever, while rock had almost no edge left, with few exceptions like "All Around Me" by Flyleaf, which was from a 2005 album, anyway. I'd rather have a year with lots of great songs in spite of the bad stuff than a year with mediocrity across the board. I can come back to plenty of 2006 tracks, but hardly anything at all from 2008 gets played on my iPod much.

I don't know if you agree with me, but I have a feeling that most of the hate towards the 2000's other than 9/11 comes from 2008 and 2009.
