I would be interested to hear other people's opinions on this. I know most people solely associate the Nu-Metal movement with Millennial culture and it's understandable, given the era in which it was popular. However, I actually think the movement targeted both Generation X and Millennials. It probably was more on a band by band basis though. For instance, i'd say that Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit had more of a Millennial core audience, but System of a Down and Korn appealed more to Gen-X. Serj Tankian (the lead singer of SOAD) was born in 1967.
Of course, that's not to say that both demographic cohorts couldn't enjoy all forms of Nu-Metal. My Mum was born in 1964 and she was able to take a strong interest in Linkin Park's music. Both of my parents like Korn and System of a Down. What are your thoughts on this?

I'd associate it with Millennial culture.
It spanned from around 1998 to 2003 (1998 leaned Millennial and 1999-2003 were absolutely Millennial in my opinion) and peaked in 2001.

Yeah, I agree that Nu-Metal was popular when Millennial culture became dominant in the mainstream, but would you say that it was actually targeted solely at Millennials?

No music genre is really targeted solely at one generation. To give a clear answer to your question, I would say that younger Gen X people (born 1977-1980) may have been into it too.

However, in the case of Nu-Metal, I think it was mostly targeted at a specific demographic, as it's time in the mainstream was strictly confined to the Late '90s and Early 2000s. It would be an exception.
