Earlier this evening, I decided to browse the Top-40 charts from each of my birthdays. It was quite interesting to browse through each chart, as the overall quality of the charts drastically differed from one another. Anyway, it gave me the idea to create this thread. If you were to browse through the Top-10 charts from each of your birthdays and rank them based on overall quality (with #1 being the highest), what would you consider to be your personal Top-5 favourite birthday charts?
For me personally, my Top-5 favourite birthday charts would be these:
1. 5th Birthday (2004)
2. 2nd Birthday (2001)
3. 9th Birthday (2008)
4. 1st Birthday (2000)
5. D.O.B (1999)
To my surprise, the Top-10 from my 5th birthday is actually quite decent and I would personally regard it as being the best Top-10 overall. I've always liked Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes", while "My Immortal" and "So Beautiful" are pretty good as well. The rest of the songs are a bit of a mixed-bag. I guess "Here Without You" isn't too bad, in the grand scheme of things, but I've just never been able to take much of an interest in it. "What About Me" is a huge trip down memory lane for me, however, it's quite cheesy in retrospect and the fact that it is a Shannon Noll song certainly doesn't help matters.
The Top-10 chart from my 2nd birthday would have to be the runner-up among these. "One Step Closer" being at #4 is something I particularly cherish; Linkin Park were my favourite childhood band and I have a lot of memories attached to listening to their songs as a child, so it's incredibly fitting that one of their songs happened to be within the Top-10 on my birthday. Ironically, there is another 3 Doors Down song which happened to chart on one of my birthdays and in contrast to "Here Without You", I actually quite like "Kyrptonite". The rest of the Top-10 isn't particularly great, although I don't mind "Case of the Ex".
This came as a bit of a surprise as well. I honestly wasn't expecting the Top-10 Charts from the Late 2000s to be all that great, so I was pleasantly surprised when I came across the Top-10 chart from my 9th birthday. Granted, most of the Top-10 entries are so-so, however I do like "Untouched", "Pictures of You", "Don't Stop The Music" and "Don't Hold Back". The only negative point is that "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" was at #5 for that particular week.
Even though this particular Top-10 lacks any clear standouts (at least for me personally), the overall quality of the Top-10 from my 1st birthday is quite consistent. I actually don't mind "Pure Shores" and most of the other songs aren't all that bad either. The only song which I don't particularly like, is "Bloke" by Chris Franklin. It's a cheap, Australian parody of the Meredith Brooks song, "Bitch".
Coming in at last-place would be the Top-10 chart from my D.O.B. Although it's great to see "Anthem For The Year 2000" and "Lullaby" within the Top-10 for the week I entered into the world, it's not enough to truly redeem the rest of the chart. "The Animal Song" being at #3 is a disappointment, so is "No Matter What" placed at #9.
