Post weird/funny/shoking music facts that you recently stumbled upon ________________ Here's a really funny and ironic one: Y'all know the hit "All the Small Things" by Pop Punk group Blink-182 and its music video that made very obviously fun of boy bands and Y2K Teen Pop in general: Well, guess what music video for which song was filmed at the exact same location 11 years later...

Haha, that's an interesting observation. I wonder if the members of Blink-182 would be aware of it? Here are a few interesting music facts I can think of: The music video for Limp Bizkit's "Rollin'" was filmed atop the World Trade Center in Late 2000. On the 10th September 2001, just one day before the September 11 Attacks, Limp Bizkit received a letter from the World Trade Center, thanking them for featuring the towers in the music video. Apologies for the poor image quality, but the video was only uploaded in 240P and this was the best screen-capture I could take. This is from the music video of "Trippin'", a song released by the New Zealand hair-metal band, Push Push. What's interesting about it, is that the drummer is wearing a Nirvana t-shirt. "Trippin'" topped the NZ charts in Early 1991, several months before Nirvana emerged in the mainstream with Nevermind. It's quite ironic that a member of a hair-metal band is wearing a t-shirt based on an underground Grunge band. Here in Australia, this was the 10th best-selling single of 2009 and it also finished as the 57th best-selling single of the decade, which is quite impressive for a song that was never intended to be released as a single. The success of "The Last Day on Earth" can purely be put down to luck. Shortly after the release of Curiouser (the album which the song was released on), it was featured in a series of promos for the soap-drama, Neighbours. The promos resulted in the song beginning to sell digitally and it would eventually peak at #2 on the Australian iTunes Chart. With "The Last Day on Earth" performing so well on the iTunes Chart, it eventually made it's debut on the ARIA Chart at #35. The record label took note of it's success and as a result, the label quickly produced the song as a physical single. After the release of the physical single, "The Last Day on Earth" became a massive hit, making a dramatic leap from #35 to #7 in one week. It became Kate Miller-Heidke's first ever Top-10 hit and it also improved sales for the album, which went onto be certified platinum (along with TLDOE).

Mabel is the niece of... {Spoiler}
...the Swedish singer who released this alt-rock hit back in 1998; Eagle-Eye Cherry.

The high-pitched sound in the background is really Justin's voice pitched up really high.

Here are few more cool facts I will continue this thread as long as I continue to stumble on them: I discovered that Selena's "Same Old Love" was originally supposed to be a Charli XCX song with an Iggy Azalea featuring. The demo even leaked on the internet: It was so haphazardly ported to Selena that they even kept some of Charli's vocals on the final version. _____________________________________________ The drummer of Crazy Town, James Bradley, was originally a jazz drummer in the 70s. That's one hell of career change ____________________________________ I dunno if everyone knows this but Martika used to be featured on the Disney Channel show "Kids Incorporated". She brought her friends from the show to record the harmonies on her biggest hit, which include none other than Fergie !

"In The End" is arguably Linkin Park's signature song and it was one of the most popular songs to have come out of the nu-metal scene, but before Hybrid Theory was released towards the end of 2000, Chester wasn't a fan of the song and didn't even want it to be included onto the album. The drummer of Crazy Town, James Bradley, was originally a jazz drummer in the 70s. That's one hell of career change Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that any of the members of Crazy Town would have been old enough to have been a drummer during the '70s. That's especially surprising seeing as how "Butterfly" was only a hit back in 2001.

Here's a really cool one: This random 1969 b-side song didn't seem much back when it came out, but it went to become one of the most important pieces of music. The reason? Well the drum pattern around the 1:27 mark became infamous when it resurged in the late 80s and recieved the name "Amen Break". It became the most sampled part in musical history, appearing in countless hip hop and electronica songs, and even birthed the genres of jungle and drum 'n' bass on its own. To this day, more than 4,400 songs contain the sample Here's a few famous songs containing the Amen Break: It's such a tiny moment in a forgotten song, yet it eventually had a tremendous and lasting effect on music !

Those low pitched Ma Ma Mas on "Poker Face" are actually sampled from a Boney M song:
Also Boney M is a German group which surprised me the first time I heard that.

Low-rise jeans, a staple of 2000s fashion, was apparently popularized by Mariah Carey in the video of her 1999 smash hit "Heartbreaker". In that clip, she hated the pair of high-waisted jeans she had to wear so much that she decided to cut it below the waist in retaliation, accidentally kickstarting a major fashion trend.

Spice Girls debut single "Wannabe" is considered to be the most catchiest pop song of the last 60 years.
Britney Spears Debut song "Baby One More Time" was initially written for Backstreet Boys and TLC, but both of the groups rejected. Rolling Stones later named this song as the greatest debut single of all time.

This isn't exactly a little known "cool fact" or anything, but Trent Reznor got his start as a janitor at a recording studio. Late at night when the studio was closed, he messed around in the recording studio, and that became Nine Inch Nails:

Here's a fun musical rabbithole:
A very popular song that's used a lot on TikTok these days for comically tense/scary videos is this song from the 2019 thriller movie Us's soundtrack:
Which is based around the 90s hip hop song "I Got 5 On It":
Which in turn sampled a R&B song from 1987:
Which in turn interpolated a R&B song from 1986:
"I Got 5 On It" was also sampled a bunch of times too, most notably on "Satisfy You" from 1999 and "I'm Gonna Be Alright" from 2002.
Crazy how a little melody goes a long way to make a huge footprint onto the musical canon!

PREFAME CAMEOS
I talked about Jennifer Lopez above, and she actually appeared pre-fame in the music video for Janet's "That's the Way the Love Goes" from 1993 (the brunette with the updo). Her music career wouldn't start until 1999!
Similarly, Doja Cat made a cameo in Becky G's video for "Shower" from 2014, way before she went viral in 2018 (the girl with the forehead jewels).
Funny how these little cameos went a long way!
