Remember this fad? What did you think of it? It was all the rage among my "hipster" friends in 2010/2011 so they could share pics on Tumblr. Personally I never did it as I can be a bit of a germaphobe. Then a few people died or got seriously injured and it quickly faded. I think it was one of the first major fads that entirely existed for the sake of posting about it on the internet.

I was 12 years old when planking was a fad back in 2011. Anyway, I personally thought it was a stupid fad. I never took part in it, but there were a few other kids in my grade who tried to plank (and failed spectacularly) on top of logs and playground equipment at school. The teachers would often stop them in the process and they got in trouble.

Risking getting trouble? Being covered in dust or street salt?

It was probably just the thrill of doing something "rebellious" and getting attention for it on social media. That's the only thing I can really think of.

It looks stupid, not rebellious. Yeah, I agree, but a lot of people probably would have perceived it as being rebellious though.

One of the biggest problems I have with the planking fad to this day is how passive it was.
At least with other internet crazes at the time, like chubby bunny and the cinnamon challenge, you actually did something.
Lay down, get your picture taken. Why is this fun??

This was pretty funny. I remember when people planked on the tables back in middle school for the lulz. If anything from the early 10s needs to come back its this.
