Just like I did for the 2000s (http://popedia.boards.net/thread/1832/2000s-playlist?page=1#post-30617), I'm attempting to create a big playlist of the 2010s devided into themes that defined the decade musically as sections . Of course there's still 10% of the decade not done yet and a lot can happen in it, but updates will be made in the meanwhile. In so far I've found: Club Bangers: All the Electropop and Dance-Pop songs that were huge in the early 2010s to 2013. Empowering Songs: Something that was huge in the early 2010s were big empowering anthems with uplifting thematics (especially Katy Perry went all out with it). After 2014 there isn't much of it. Indie & Hipster: All the indie stuff that were popular, particularly in the period of 2012-2016. Also some unrelated stuff that are popular among all the hipster kids. Funk & Disco Revival: The movement in Pop music that became a thing since 2013 and is very succesful since at that. Pop Soul: Related to the previous one but was a thing since the start of decade. Kid Show Stars Maturing: The singers popularized by kid series (Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato) and their musical evolution EDM Overtake: The EDM hits in heavy rotation since 2013. Trap Everything: The Trap hits in heavy rotation since 2015. The Legacy of Tropical House and Dancehall: Both genres were defining and influential on music from the mid-2010s and 2017. Alternative take on R&B: Hits of the Alternative R&B genre that was popularized in 2015. Sad Rap: Downbeat and instrospective Rap that was once cutting-edge in the 2000s but completely standardized in the late 2010s. Shake it, Baby: Bangers meant to shake ya ass/twerk to. Huge in the mid-2010s. Pop Rap's Double Face: A genre popular in 2010 and still massive 8 years later. Can either be serious and consious or silly. Hip Hop's acclamations: Hip Hop was on a roll with acclaimed releases this decade among music critics and enthusiasts, particularly the "underground" stuff. The Power of Internet: Songs that were popularized charts-wise thanks to the ever increasing internet's influence on it. Also artists that were popularized thanks to it (Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, ...) and their evolution will also be thrown here. Latin's Comeback: Relatively new, but latin music's comeback in 2017 and its influence on Pop music. What do you think of these? I would also need some other suggestions. I can't for instance fit most of mid-2010s Pop music so far.

This is just a suggestion, but I think it might also be a good idea to create a theme for non-indie rock songs of the 2010s. While guitar-driven rock has largely remained absent from the mainstream in the 2010s, there have been a few significant releases which have become hits in their own right. For instance, you could include "Radioactive", "Shut Up and Dance", "Sign of the Times", Bad Wolves' cover of "Zombie" and "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes. Other than that, I really like the ideas behind those theme concepts! I have to go to bed shortly, but I will help you with a few song suggestions sometime tomorrow.

The "Indie & Hipster" kinda encompasses lots of different styles but I'm making sure the songs coherently flow into eachother unless it's a section change. "Shut Up and Dance" will fit nicely with Paramore's New Wavey hit singles. The "Sail" into "Radioactive" transition for instance is just marvelous. Thinking of it, I kind of want to create a "Anthemic Ballads section" as they made a pretty big comeback this decade with the likes of "Someone Like You", "Just Give Me a Reason", "All of Me", "See You Again", "Perfect" and so on, after being quite irrelevant in the 2000s, and probably conserve "Sign of the Times" and "In My Blood" for that.

No worries. In regards to the "Anthemic Ballads" section, that's actually a really good idea and it would make sense, because as you said, there have been quite a number of hits from this decade that could easily fall into that category. Also, here are a few Early/Mid 2010s pop songs I have thought of which could be included into the playlist: EDM Overtake:* "Leon On" - Major Lazer Ft. MO & DJ Snake * "Can't Feel My Face" - The Weeknd * "Fight Song" - Rachel Platten * "Peanut Butter Jelly" - Galantis * "Closer" - The Chainsmokers * "Work" - Rihanna * "Touch" - Little Mix (This wasn't a hit in the US, but it was a hit across Europe and Oceania). Indie & Hipster:* "Riptide" - Vance Joy * "Hold Back The River" - James Bay * "Pumped Up Kicks" - Foster The People * "Somebody That I Used To Know" - Gotye * "Lonely Boy" - The Black Keys * "Big Jet Plane" - Angus & Julia Stone (Not sure if you are familiar with this song, but it was a hit in Australia, Belgium, France and New Zealand back in 2010). * "Spirits" - The Strumbellas - (A Canadian indie-folk song that was a worldwide hit in 2016. It didn't even chart here, unfortunately. ) Trap Everything* "God's Plan" - Drake * "Bodak Yellow" - Cardi B * "Trap Queen" - Fetty Wap * "Stir Fry" - Migos

* "Can't Feel My Face" - The Weeknd * "Work" - Rihanna These are EDM songs ? "Can't Feel My Face" has a obvious funky throwback feeling, while "Work" is a straightup Dancehall song and since both have their own dedicated sections Huge thanks for your suggestions tho, completely forgot about "Riptide" which is very essential.

I nominate Bro/Metro Country to the list, with the likes of Thomas Rhett and FGL. I can come up with suggestions if interested.

Speaking of Tropical House, I think "Cheerleader" by OMI would be a good addition to the list.

^Oh btw you could probably just include a couple FGL songs and it would be enough to get the gist of it.
I would definitely add k-pop though idk what to suggest other than Mic Drop by BTS.
Would "club bangers" basically just include upbeat pop? It would be very important to me to include California Gurls, What Makes You Beautiful, Call Me Maybe, and Your Love is My Drug lolol.
Where would Lana del Rey go, indie?
And I hate to say it but it would not be this decade in music without Shake it Off.

And I hate to say it but it would not be this decade in music without Shake it Off. I'm not sure if Lana Del Ray would really fit under the indie label, to be honest. I've always thought of her as being more of a pop artist than an indie artist, but then again, she has included indie elements into her music, so I guess she could be included into the list. I agree in regards to "Shake It Off". It's pretty much the definitive song of 2014.
