I would say these are the shifts (major ones in red, minor ones in black) 1988 1991/19921995 19971999 20012004 20082012/2013 2016I'm not sure if you'd agree, but these are the minor and major "modern shifts" in my opinion.Huh, what happened in 1997? You were born.

Huh, what happened in 1997? 56k modems made Internet and PCs explode in popularity. Didn't a lot of 90's shows end in 1997? I believe that Roseanne, Married With Children, Beavis and Butthead, Wings, X-Men, and Martin all ended in 1997. Additionally, 1997 was when the age of teen pop ushered in with the Spice Girls. It was also when King of the Hill and South Park, two shows integral to 2000's television, debuted.

The world has truly never been the same since. Apparently the shift repeats itself every chinese zodiac period, so today the world is shifting completely to the worst... Again Actually, this is kind of true - the Chinese zodiac does seem to repeat itself, especially in recent history. 1979: "Video Killed the Radio Star" ushers in the age of 80's music 1991: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ushers in the age of 90's music 1981: The president of the 80's has his inauguration 1993: The president of the 90's has his inauguration 1987: The absolute start of The Simpsons (as shorts on The Tracy Ullman Show) 1999: The absolute start of Family Guy 1987: Glam metal was at its peak 1999: Teen pop was at its peak 1988: The start of the 90's sitcom age (Roseanne, Murphy Brown) 2000: The start of the reality TV age (Survivor, Big Brother) 1988-1990: The pre-grunge period 2000-2002: The pre-emo period 1989: George HW Bush becomes president 2001: George W. Bush becomes president 1989: The Berlin Wall fall changed politics forever 2001: 9/11 changed politics forever 1993-1994: The peak of grunge 2005-2006: The peak of emo 1994: PlayStation 1 is released. 2006: Wii is released. 1995: The start of the Internet 2007: The start of the iPhone 2000: Y2K 2012: 12/21/12 Mayan Calendar Apocalypse 2000: PlayStation 2 is released. 2012: Wii U is released. One more thing to add: inthe00s had the most users online in 2006, whereas Popedia had the most users online in 2018.

How are those even comparable to events like the end of the Cold War, 9/11, the economic crash or even Trump's election to a lesser extent. Should definitely be a minor shift at best.

It was more of a pop cultural shift than a political shift. There were many threads and posts on inthe00s' archive that had content regarding the pop cultural changes that took place in 1997. Some even said that the year felt more like 2005 than 1995 pop culturally. Due to the fact that I am afraid of a flame war happening and this thread getting locked, I'll stop here.

I also read that in an old thread I was reading lol. Clearly that wasn't the case though.

The big consensus is that 1997 was still the 90s but just sillier and some foreshadowing of the upcoming Y2K era. So that's pretty silly to put it with the likes of years like 1991 or 2008. But whatever, let's move on I guess.

Today marks 12 years since the day when the world changed forever and things were never the same: September 1st, 2006. First, let me just start off by saying that I can't believe it's already been 12 years. Time flies by so fast. I still remember exactly where I was when the shift happened. I remember everyone crying and a war started going on and everyone was no longer happy and playing outside. I remember when TV Shows, music, fashion, and technology absolutely went downhill and others have noticed it immediately. Not just that, but every single thing you can imagine in the world, universe, and on the planet earth started to suck on that specific day. Nobody could jump really high anymore because gravity got stronger that day. Even kids stopped playing outside and were immediately glued to their smartphones. This is a very tragic event in history and I think we should have a moment of silence for those who will never get to experience the times before the infamous late 2006 shift. Smartphones were barely even a thing in 2006, if at all. This isn't even funny or anything

2000: PlayStation 2 is released. 2012: Wii U is released. I know its poster left the forums in a strange fit not too long ago, but I just fell on this assertion and it stands out to me as a really strange a comparison to make . The Playstation 2 still remains the best sold video game console of all-time, while the Wii U was one of Nintendo's biggest commercial failures. In its two years, the Switch has already sold twice the amount of what the Wii U sold in total to tell you how bad it is.
