There has been a trend for several years this decade of wearing formerly uncool clothes, especially things popular in the 90's. This includes white trainers, "mom" jeans, jorts, wind pants, hawaiian shirts, etc. It has become one of the dominant styles found at stores like Pac Sun. What do you think of this? Personally I don't know if I believe that people actually like these items as much as they think they are ironic and therefore cool. I think it has become a new branch of the preppy style, replacing the formerly popular Abercrombie influenced look, having mixed with hipster and normcore. Thoughts?

I wasn't aware that this was even a trend, to be honest. I'm personally not really a fan of it. I am surprised that it has been adopted as a style by teens/young adults, because like you mentioned, it's doubtful whether people actually find those clothing items to be cool.

I am surprised that it has been adopted as a style by teens/young adults, because like you mentioned, it's doubtful whether people actually find those clothing items to be cool. I'm assuming it's just because it's funny? I sort of view it as a continuation of the thrift store hipster styles that were popular when I was in high school, with all of the artsy kids wearing giant sweaters and glasses. But what's odd is that those aren't the types of people so strongly embracing the look. Instead it tends to be the cool bro people, like the real life versions of Justin Bieber and Bella Hadid. Around 2012, it was a thing for a while for jocks to dress nauseatingly preppy. It really was hard to tell whether they were joking. The current trend does have a similar flavor. Ultimately it's "cool" not to care. To actually like something and admit it puts one in a vulnerable position which may create an emotional disturbance; "not cool". So to wear something intentionally ugly that you don't like at all makes you seem confident and above opinion when in reality, it's more of an avoidance of actually being genuine.

I think this might be fading now. It's a look that really depends on novelty and it's no longer fresh.
