Yeah? Which posts in particular? I bet you have checked out one of SharksFans most favourite talented artist in Billy Ray Ray’s 1992 hit? “No in my year level would probably even know bands like Oasis”. Wow! I would never talk to those ones again...ever! Next you’ll say they haven’t heard of Nickelback! I'm sure Qwerty knows better than to check out horrible songs from the past. Who would want to listen to Billy Ray anyway?

This may be a long post, so feel free to move it. The first 90s band I was really interested in was Savage Garden, I started to hear their music on radio and began to enjoy it. I found that my mum had their debut album so I played that regularly. That would have been about 4-5 years ago. To be honest, I don't really know how my increased interest for rock music occurred. I began to enjoy the music of Oasis in about 2016, but it was only initially their well known material. I would say that posts here have made me check out other music, which i've ended up enjoying and now listen to regularly. I can say for certain, my parents and people from school certainly haven't influenced my tastes. In fact, no one in my year level would probably even know bands like Oasis! Funnily enough, Savage Garden was one of the first few 90s bands I was interested in too! Do you have a particular favourite of theirs? My favourite Savage Garden songs would be To The Moon And Back and The Animal Song. Also quite like Break Me Shake Me and Truly Madly Deeply. LOL, definitely not posts about THAT awful song. Mainly posts from the ‘Rate The Song Above’ thread. If I don’t talk to those who don’t know Oasis, I probably won’t have any students to talk to! I should do a survey of some of the students asking whether they have heard of Oasis, i’m sure the findings will be how I suspect. They can listen to their awful generic rap music and K-Pop while I listen to some GOOD stuff! Yes, there are at least two students who have heard of Nickelback so they may not be as ignorant as I think

Yep, and also dont forget the release of Finding Dory in June 2016! Early 2000s nostalgia was really kicking in then. Oh yeah, I forgot about Finding Dory! Yep, that's true too. To be honest, i'm surprised that Early 2000s nostalgia isn't more prominent in the mainstream. I know there's that "2002" song by Anne Marie, but considering the fact that the year 2000 is almost two decades ago, you'd think that Early 2000s nostalgia would be huge at the moment. It got pretty huge last year, not only with "2002", but also Drake's "Nice for What" deliberately based on early-2000s R&B, "Thank U, Next"'s video being a nod to 2000-2004 teen movies and "Without Me" being an interpolation of "Cry Me a River". Honestly I can't really recall as many stuff from the late 2000s referencing the early 90s. The best I can think would be a special Simpsons flashback episode that was a nod to their peak decade, the 90s, that aired in 2008 (and to be fair it's a terrible episode with no plot and contains a mind-bogglingly bad depiction of the nineties) And to be honest if it was for me I would rather keep 00s nostalgia an underground internet thing because it keeps it more a personal thing instead of being overblown, but it doesn't seem that will happen...

I'm sure Qwerty knows better than to check out horrible songs from the past. Who would want to listen to Billy Ray anyway? Um, you? Don’t deny it, I know you secretly listen to him in your bedroom (with the door locked for obvious reasons!). My favourite Savage Garden songs would be To The Moon And Back and The Animal Song. Also quite like Break Me Shake Me and Truly Madly Deeply. LOL, definitely not posts about THAT awful song. Mainly posts from the ‘Rate The Song Above’ thread. No one I knows can stand Savage Garden for some reason! That’s no good. SharksFan would be very disappointed to hear that I’m certain. Haha, all good. I reckon you should take that survey just to be certain lol. I’m also glad to hear that AT LEAST two you know of who have heard of Nickelback. I’d be surprised otherwise.

Um, you? Don’t deny it, I know you secretly listen to him in your bedroom (with the door locked for obvious reasons!). Even if I did (which I can assure you that I definitely don't ), why would I publicly admit to doing so? That wouldn't be a sensible thing to do since I've bagged you out for liking his music for years now.

To older members, 2016 was one of the worst years in recent memory, for reasons I don’t think I have to bother to explain.

Because I know someone born in 1996 who considers 2016 to be the absolute best year of their life. I think 90's babies who didn't like 2016 are actually in the minority. But it's obviously going to be a popular opinion on nostalgia forums like these.

You may be right. I’m 1990, and 2016 was not pleasant. I mean, look how the US was ripping itself apart then and continues to do so now. For the earlier half of Millennials, I would venture to say it was a time of a lot of fear and anger.

I'm guessing it was because a lot of the 90s borns were young adults and in college by then, therefore a lot of youthful fun and freetime. I also had a great year in 2016 to be honest, but that doesn't mean I will ignore the fact that it was an extremely destructive year with very little positive that came out of it otherwise.

The politics and the terrorist attacks and the various refugee crises cast a dark shadow on 2016, which is why I won't be nostalgic for it anytime soon; but—and not to diminish what happened—I really enjoyed it pop culture wise. Pokémon GO!!

Re: '90s babies liking 2016; I wouldn't say that it is unanimous. Most people will likely have somewhat of a negative perception of the year due to the election of Donald Trump and the way in which people reacted to the news. I mean, people were genuinely in fear about the possible scenario of him achieving power and what he might do during his time in office. It wasn't a year of optimism, by any stretch.
The homogeneity of pop culture at the time would also leave a lot of people feeling alienated. There was nothing else on offer in the Top-40 mainstream if you weren't a fan of EDM or Trap music. I personally have about 3 friends who hate the music of 2016 (and the 2010s in general), as they're not a fan of those two genres and rock music (their favourite genre) didn't have a presence at all.

True, lots of us younger 90s borns who were voting for the first time felt worried about the US future with Trump and Hilary being the running-mates. Trump being elected defently put fear in a lot of Americans who were left-wing, immigrants and even non-Americans. Older 90s borns did feel scared but a good chunk of them just ignored the election as a whole.

If we talk about underground/indiesphere rock music then 2018 easily blows 2016 out of the water You simply can't beat the year that offered us amazing albums by MGMT, Beach House, IDLES and Parquet Courts
