Tbh that’s its own trend for this decade: People obsessively hating something because others practically worship it. Not that the concept is new, but the internet has intensified the breeding ground for this behavior( on both sides). Ok, that is certainly one I don't like about the 2010s: unnecessary and pointless hate-filled backlash against every trend ever. It started as soon as the decade begun with the hate-bandwagon on Bieber's "Baby", and since has become a staple of the internet to vehemently hate on popular things.

Yeah I see that with Baby lolol. Not to defend all the hate because it’s beyond annoying, but I’m wondering if it happens in part because fans get to be louder than ever. The internet connects the fans, it gives them this platform to shout their love and support. In the past, if you didn’t like a show, you didn’t watch it. You didn’t pick up a magazine if it had a singer on the cover you didn’t like. But if all your Facebook friends are talking about it, you can’t help but be exposed. Perhaps people feel increased pressure that they are “supposed” to like something, which pushes them to snap and become a hater. The problem is, the haters then get as nasty or worse in retaliation. Then people think they can carry their smarmy internet behavior into real life. It can be pretty uncomfortable to be discussing something one moment, and get randomly attacked for what you like or believe. All the opinions are getting so unnecessarily vicious.

This trend has since thankfully died out it seems, but my god was this everywhere on the internet in the mid-2010s.
