@ghost X2M al SharksFan99
Hey, sorry for tagging y'all, just want your perspective on this subject. I made this thread to reminisce on our experiences with the GenDec community. ("GenDec" is a term I coined to refer to the community on Popedia, Inthe00s, PerC, Reddit, YouTube, and that's had presence on sites like Amirite and RetroJunk, that specializes in discussions about Generations and Decades, hence "GenDec")
I myself have been involved with the GenDec community since late 2012, right after I started my freshman year of high school. It still feels like yesterday, it's beyond belief for me that it's now 6 years ago Where has the time gone?
This was when I started getting into the whole '90s Kids VS '00s Kids shitshow, which I'll admit I joined to try to defend the decade I grew up in after seeing how unapologetic and pretentious these elitist '90s kids were being, but it quickly became an addiction, I'll admit, I especially got hooked with arguing with He Who Has Many Names (Ghost remembers exactly who I'm referring to ), as well as users such as jflemingification and rofler15 to a lesser extent.
I still got involved with these discussions during my sophomore and junior year, but to a much lesser extent. By my senior year, the topic of interest for me shifted from the "'90s Kid VS '00s Kid" debate to the "Gen Y VS Gen Z" debate, this is where I discovered PersonalityCafe, and I'll admit, the reason I got involved was to promote the notion of my grad class (2016) being the youngest Millennials.
Admittedly, these discussions about grad classes and cutoffs were very petty, and they ultimately led to the demise of the PerC Generations Subforum, but I did make some good new online friends in the process.
There are some users that were active on PerC that I do miss talking to, such as Lennox97, Abacab333, Wtpmjgda, Link1, as well as later users such as NicoLynne, jaderose23, Preciselyd, and keepthefaith.fath. Users that have been gone before my time on PerC such as TheSpinningDoctor, LynxLynx, and BlueLeaves95 I'd also like to meet someday if they ever decide to return.
It is great though that there are still a lot of users from back then that are still active now. I met NerdyGamer, mqg96, and most likely ZeldaFan20 (under the moniker "Gabe Newell") on YouTube before I met them on PerC, but it was on PerC I gotten to know them so well, and I especially enjoy talking with them on Live Streams (though it's a shame ZeldaFan20 never joins though, I hope he does someday )
SharksFan99 and MissAl, whom I met when I was new to PerC, have become some of my closest online friends over these past couple years, as has Rainbowz whom I met much later (though boy does she love to banter )
I also wish we would've known mwalker96 on PerC back when it was active, I would've enjoyed hearing his POV on those subjects at hand discussed in the past.
Ghost and AGR I've known since 2012/2013, back when we were active on the whole '90s Kid Vs '00s Kid YouTube drama, I do enjoy reminiscing about that with them whenever I can.
So what about you? How would you describe your past experiences with the GenDec community, discussions we've had in the past, users we knew back then that have since been lone gone, etc.?
Let me know in the comments below.
