I got the idea for this thread after making this post. What songs did you have to sing or dance to when you were in elementary/primary school? * "Hey Baby" - DJ Otzi (a Eurodance song from 2002. I used to get embarrassed singing this out loud because of the lyric, "would you like to be my girl". ) * Macarena * "Who Let The Dogs Out?" - Baha Men * The Nutbush * "Miss Sue" (The sad thing is, I still know all the words to this song ) * "Dancing Queen" - ABBA I'm sure there would be others, but I can't think of them at the moment.

We used to sing "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata" at my primary school as well. "Hey There Delilah" is a strange choice of song. It's not really the type of song you would expect a group of primary school kids to be singing along to! Oh well, at least it's better than "Who Let The Dogs Out".

We performed all three songs in Year 1 in front of the whole school as part of their annual talent quest. Yeah, after singing it countless times in Year 4 it's stuck in my head!

Yeah, after singing it countless times in Year 4 it's stuck in my head! It must have been a bit frightening performing the three songs in front of the entire school! I had to do something similar to that when I was in Kindergarten. My Kindergarten class and I had to sing the national anthem in front of roughly a thousand people at a basketball game at the Shellharbour City Stadium (the one on Croome Road). The worst thing about it was that the people in the crowd were all looking down on us, because the seating area is all elevated. I had a lot of stage fright, but thankfully we only had to sing the first verse of the national anthem. We weren't there for long. Haha, I used to get it stuck in my head quite a lot as well. i98fm and Wave FM used to play the song to death when it first came out.

Only the songs in our school music books, traditional folksongs or hymns were allowed in my school!

Cupid Shuffle, Macarena, and Cha Cha Slide. Also a bunch of supposedly patriotic songs. If you don't mind me asking, what year were you born in? We had to do the Macarena and Cha Cha Slide at our elementary/primary school as well.

We had to sing a parody of "Barbie Girl" when we graduated elementary school. Never knew why though. Maybe because we were born the same year it came out? Anyway, we killed it.
Besides that we weren't singing much at my school, group dancing on the other hand was almost a tradition, I had to do that both when I was in elementary school and middle school. My all-time favorite song to dance to was this one back when it came out:

Crocodile Rock -Elton John I Don't Know Much -Linda Ronstadt Don't Laugh at Me -Mark Wills
Lots of Christmas and patriotic songs. In elementary school, my music teacher wrote a lot of songs we had to sing to the tune of other popular children's songs. Unfortunately I can still remember the Thanksgiving song set to Frere Jacques. Even then I couldn't stand her songs, I felt like they were for preschoolers lol.

Pretty much through every year of primary school in December the entire school had to sing Christmas songs and such (in class and in school productions). I also remember the first few years before assembly began the entire school sang the national anthem "Advance Australia Fair". I can remember these: “Macarena” “Jailhouse Rock” - this was for a primary school concert. "Who Let The Dogs Out?" "Graduation (Friends Forever)" - our school had to sing this on leavers day when I was in Grade 6. I’m sure there were many others but I can’t think of them right now to be honest.

One of my friends does part-time work at the primary school we attended and when I caught up with him on Thursday, I asked him what songs do the kids at the school sing. Believe it or not, they still do the Macarena, even to this day.

I'm not sure of the exact name but my class had to do a talent show performance in front of the entire school in 5th grade reciting each of the 50 states (USA) in alphabetical order, and we rehearsed literally every single day for weeks just for everyone to get it right. It's literally the only reason I remember any of the states I pretty much use it on the daily, like that's one of the most important things that school has taught me and I'll for sure make sure my own kids learn that too haha.

It must have been annoying having to try and learn/remember all of the 50 states! I don't think I would be able to do that.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some schools still don’t play the “Graduation“ song by Vitamin C in final schooling years.

The "Graduation" song was never played during my final years in primary school. It's not timeless like the Macarena is.
