2010 and the first half of 2011 was a great time for music imo.

Well I know one member who likes Tay Tay. @paul is her biggest fan...or am I mistaking her for Katy Perry? I don’t mind some of Katy Perry’s songs. Taylor’s music is just boring teeny trash IMO. I would just say they're about the same, Taylor actually has some decent songs such as "Style" and "Wildest Dreams". Meanwhile Katy Perry has a fair amount of trash music, "Last Friday Night" for example . Also Katy Perry is fkn mental right now.

Happy by Pharrel Williams (a late 2013/early 2014 song) is also a life anthem. And finally, while they are commonly associated with 2015, Shut Up and Dance, Taylor Swift's 1989 album, and Uptown Funk also came out that year. 2014 was a behemoth! 2014 was probably one of the most annoying years in terms of pop music, are you forgetting "All About the Bass", "Anaconda" or " Bang Bang"? Teen pop was everywhere that year.

Teen pop was everywhere that year. Yeah, Pop music just took on an overall obnoxious direction that year, pointlessly so and completely out of blue. It was the year of Jason Derulo and Iggy Azalea, as well as other singles I've found really irritating for various reasons like "Timber", "Dark Horse" (speaking of bad Katy Perry songs), "Turn Down for What" and Taylor Swift's 1989's elementary-school-level lead single "Shake it Off". Her much stronger singles like "Blank Space", "Style" and "Wildest Dreams" were all kept for either very late-2014 or 2015 anyway. It was also the year of kid songs being played ad nauseam, with "Let it Go" as well as the lifelessly bland "Happy" being absolutely massive and inescapable. Of course they were a couple of great songs being huge hits like "Prayer in C", "Pompeii" and "Rather Be" (which I hated back then, but it has grown on me a great deal since), but I felt they were simply not enough to compensate for the annoyance that was pop radio that year.

I personally don't understand the strong resentment leveled at 2014. While I agree that it generally wasn't a great year for music and the worst songs from the year were particularly bad, in retrospect, there was a fair share of genuinely decent songs as well. It wasn't the year from hell that many people make it out to be. Here are the songs from 2014 which I personally don't mind:
* "Budapest" - George Ezra * "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" - Paloma Faith * "Stay With Me" - Sam Smith * "Cool Kids" - Echosmith * "We Are Done" - The Madden Brothers * "I'm Not the Only One" - Sam Smith * "Come With Me Now" - KONGOS
I'll admit, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to those songs, but that's not to discredit the quality of the songs themselves. There's a few other songs which I personally don't think are as bad as how I perceived them at the time. Ed Sheeran's two big singles from that year ("Sing" and "Don't") aren't actually bad songs based on their own artistic merits. Heck, even "She Looks So Perfect" isn't even that bad of a song and I never thought I would say that.

She may be fkn mental but Katy Perry has at least some songs that don’t totally insult the ears! “Hot n Cold” and “This is How We Do” are alright.

“Hot n Cold” and “This is How We Do” are alright. I can't believe "Hot n Cold" is still the theme song of Masterchef, even though it was released almost 11 years ago! You'd think that they would have updated it at some point.

I think that's a good! It just proves the legacy of the song, instead of being a throwaway single that happened to be relevant at some point. It's like how they use "We Are Family" for Family Feud-type of shows .

Taylor Swift? Nah, I don’t get the appeal of her music. All I hear is blah, blah, blah. Well I know one member who likes Tay Tay. @paul is her biggest fan...or am I mistaking her for Katy Perry? I can't stand Taylor Swiift. A few months ago, actually had an argument with my sister in law about who is better between Katy and Taylor. Think round 2 will be resolved around Christmas.

Hey Hey, I just found a comment I wrote 2 years ago in 2016: Funny how little my opinion has changed, besides obviously the fact that I did a big backlash on my own against the early '10s in the mid 2010s . I've definitely grown to appreciate that period a lot more!

I agree with the viewpoints that 2010 was the best and 2014 was the worst. There are tons from the former year that I can listen to over again while there is very few from the latter that I liked. Second, in 2010 there was also diversity in mainstream music whether it was hip-hop, R&B/Soul, AC, or even indie rock. The same can't be said for 2014.
