Second, in 2010 there was also diversity in mainstream music whether it was hip-hop, R&B/Soul, AC, or even indie rock. The same can't be said for 2014. I agree that 2010 was the most diverse year for mainstream music this decade, but I would have to disagree with you in regards to 2014. There were several different genres of music which were represented in the mainstream that year: Indie-Pop Pop-Punk Bubblegum-pop Teen-pop In addition to those, these genres were also represented in the mainstream: * Soul ("Stay With Me" - Sam Smith) * Electropop ("Burn" - Ellie Goulding) * Pop-Rock ("Ain't It Fun" - Paramore) * EDM ("A Sky Full of Stars" - Coldplay) * Hip-Hop ("7/11" - Beyonce) * Funk ("Uptown Funk" - Bruno Mars) 2014 wasn't as homogeneous as many people make it out to be. While all those genres weren't on the charts at a single time, they still made up many of the biggest hits of the year.
