I was a teen then so I feel like I have to speak on this as many younger posters are getting confused on what happened.
This is the unofficial history of the end of the y2k era.
The year 2001 was already starting to feel semi different, The year started off with Sega ending the console race & WCW going out of business.
By the time we got to May 2001 (around the time SHREK 1 was being promoted) the y2k feeling was gradually fading off fast, more and more
music was becoming more hip hop & less teen pop such as NYSNC, Pop Punk really got a kick in the pants in Aug of 2001 with the release of
American Pie 2 (The movie had a very 2000s feel to it) things such as this movie and blink & Sum 41's new album were setting the tone for
the fall 2001 season.
I will have to say things were already changing BEFORE 9/11, I remember the week going back to school (which was Sept 4th) things
already felt different, you had the VMAS with Britney debuting her Slave song, and weeks later XBOX & Gamecube launched. 9/11 is
not 100% the reason why the change happened but it sure perpetuated change. The change was going to happen anyway. Just wanted
to make this thread to inform some younger members that the y2k era was already out the window WELL before September 2001.
