There is just over two days left of 2018, a year which, at least from a historical sense, will likely be remembered as being one of the most defining years of the decade (a pity that can't be said about the music). 2018 witnessed North Korea and South Korea making strides towards the eventual goal of reunification, France experiencing it's worst civil unrest in over half a century, Saudi Arabia allowing women to drive for the first time and Canada legalising recreational cannabis, becoming the first major industrialised country to do so. Late 2018 will also mark the first time in history where over half of the world's population (51.2%) has access to the internet. To celebrate the year that was, I thought it would be a great idea if we had a thread where we talk about all the things that we liked about 2018. Whether it be movies, TV shows, games, music, just anything from this year that you like.
To start off with, I would just like to say how appreciate I am of the fact that a rock song like "Zombie" was able to become a legitimately huge hit. I mean, "Zombie" will be remembered as one of the biggest hits of the year. Besides that though, it's genuinely a good song in it's own right.

Yeah, this was quite the year. Great song pick!
I think something that stood out to me was Avengers: Infinity War. It's one of my favourite movies of the year.
It was the culmination of 10 years of interconnected Marvel movies and it became an unbelievable box office phenomenon. It's so innovative. And it serves as the perfect tribute to the visionary Stan Lee, who was behind so many of those characters.
And if that wasn't enough, Avengers: Endgame holds the crown as the most viewed trailer in 24 hours. And it did this at the last minute in Dec 2018.
MCU is currently the world's most valuable movie franchise.

^Nice positivity! MCU never caught my intrigue, but now I feel like I missed on a phenomenon which is a bummer. Same case with Marvel movies, with the only exception of "Black Panther" I watched this year. Oh well, I will try to watch a bunch of them in 2019!
As for the song "Zombie", it didn't really do that much in the charts and personally I've never heard in public or anyone mentioning it besides on this forum. Don't really get the fuzz either, I personally think it's a pretty mediocre and generic Metalcore cover possessing none of the original's rawness.

Endgame is set to be even bigger! So yeah, watch that one in theaters and it'll be like you never missed anything . But you caught Black Panther and that was a big event too.

MCU is currently the world's most valuable movie franchise. I agree. I know this is somewhat off-topic, but just out of curiosity, what did you think of the ending of Infinity War? I thought it was a bit disappointing, to be honest. I enjoyed the movie overall, but the ending ruined it for me. Speaking of the MCU, one Marvel movie (which was released this year) that I really like is Deadpool 2. I like the witty humour in it and how unique the movie franchise is in comparison to the other MCU movies. ^Nice positivity! Oh well, I will try to watch a bunch of them in 2019! The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still going strong and it's movies are performing very well in the box office, so there's still time to catch the phenomenon. You should try to watch the Deadpool movies if you get the chance. It's success would have varied from country to country. Here in Australia, it peaked at #26 on the ARIA Chart (which, for 2018 standards, is really impressive for a rock song) and it received a lot of airplay on our Top-40 stations, so much so that I was starting to get sick of hearing it after a while. It generated word of mouth among the public as well. I can remember two of my friends suggesting to me that I should listen to the song and they don't even listen to new Top-40 music. All that aside though, I agree that The Cranberries' version is a lot better than the cover released by Bad Wolves.

I hated 2018, but I will say that it was a changeful year.
