Can you believe it? It's been 10 years since 2009! Post an image and (optional) describe how it relates to how your 2009 was. Try to keep it one image per post. Although I don't mind reading multiple posts with one image each from the same person, I just hope the one image rule will encourage people to post things that are more personal instead of spamming 2009 clichés such as Obama, Avatar, Wii etc. ;D Skinny jeans! I bought my first pair in spring 2009. It sounds uncontroversial now, but in the 2000s where flared bootcut trousers and baggy clothing were standard, skinny anything on dudes was very risqué. I remember when I wore mine to school, people said "Really? Skinny jeans? That's so gay." but I ignored them. 3 months later, almost everybody was in on them.

I was only 3-4 at the time, but I always spent my days watching Zac gaming on 6th-gen (Xbox and PS2), kids TV, VHSs and not so much DVDs. Here's something from Square Root of Minus Garfield:

This is a bit left of field, but I would say that the one image that defines 2009 for me personally is this LG VHS/DVD combo. I owned the exact same model in my bedroom. The reason why it is so significant for me, is because January 2009 was the month my Grandad taught me how to record TV content onto the tape. I had known how to use a VHS player since I was a little kid, but recording content onto tape was the one thing which I wasn't entirely sure about. It was pretty significant for me (as silly as it sounds). From that point on, I started to record TV content almost every morning and afternoon. It became one of my biggest hobbies. As a result, I've got a lot of memories associated with using my LG VHS/DVD combo and recording TV content. One memory that particularly stands out for me is getting up at 6am one morning (as I always did), turning my TV on and watching the report on Ten Early Morning News that Sydney had been covered by a dust storm. I decided to look outside my bedroom window out of curiosity and I noticed that the street/grass were all covered by a red dust. I had never seen anything like it!

^ Fun fact: I have owned quite a few of them over the years, but I currently still have that exact same VHS/DVD combo which is still in working condition, along with another brand I use. Since 2009 (and the years either side of it) involved quite a lot of holiday travelling over to mainland Australia, these two images sum it up.

2009 is that "magical year where I discovered the wonders of internet" for me and especially Wikipedia where I could go on and read hours of articles about my favorite subjects. ^This was also pretty fun to use back then

When I got smartphone in 2010, one of the first thing I did was install an adhoc MSN app, and I saw that almost everyone was offline. And the few people who were online that I talked to sounded annoyed that I messaged them; like they only accidentally left MSN on.

Does that have something to do with the GFC?

This is the year I got a Nintendo DSi, it was the hype at the time and many kids like myself got one. The camera and Flipnote apps were fun.

Using them the last time seems like a lifetime ago now. I used to spend hours on them back in the day.

When this channel launched, I watched a lot of it. It died when Eleven came along in 2011...

Does that have something to do with the GFC? The economy collapse yeah, it represents Circuit City, KB being gone along with Walden Books and countless others, The mall was so empty in 2009
