2009 still feels connected up til like 2016
Electropop was these standard (until 2013) most of the stores that left in malls remained that way until 2019 (KB Toys is coming back this year) Obama etc
There is a host of other things, but its the fact that 2009 was a pre-2010s beta year that would define the years that would come after it.

2009 was a pre-2010s beta year that would define the years that would come after it. Yeah, I can agree with that. Like a trial run for what the early to mid-‘10s would ultimately be like. Emo was still prominent but winding down in terms of both music and fashion, and 2009 was arguably the beginning of trends that would be important in gaming over the following decade such as the rise of and innovation by indie developers.

In 2009 the Motorola Droid came out, which looks like this LMAO a slider phone like this could NEVER come out today especially with tech companies obsession with removing buttons on every phone

Now Flash is dead, but back in 2009 Flash games were ALL THE RAGE. I could show some examples, but that might be for another thread

First off, 9/10 did not have a smartphone in 2009. The fact that you could even access the internet on your Mobile phone was groundbreaking back in 2009 and very few phones had that feature. Sure, smartphones existed in 2009 and still exist today but they are functionally not the same. In 2009, if you wanted to access social media, you most likely did it from a computer or laptop. Very few people would pull up Facebook or Twitter on their phone like they do now. It wasn’t until Instagram and Snapchat in the early 2010s when social media became app/mobile oriented. Not all phones even had internet access in 2009 or were even able to play music (people still had iPods and MP3s for that). App culture was not huge yet, and your smartphone in 2009 was not your primary method of communication or entertainment the way that it is now. 2009 birthed some of the trends we have now but as a whole that year is old news

Honestly, with each day we're getting more and more detached from the late 00s, i think it's a matter of time before 2009 starts reeking of retro
