I noticed on the ARIA Chart a few days ago that an artist named Dominic Fike has a single that has just debuted at #42 on the chart. I have never heard of him before, so I decided to look up information about him and his music. Apparently, he is a 22-year-old from the US state of Florida. I haven't listened to "3 Nights" yet, but from what I've read, it's an acoustic pop song with a strong melody and plucked guitar strings. He actually generated quite a bidding war between the major record labels back in October. The interesting thing about it though is that the major record labels generally throw piles of cash at rappers, but Dominic Fike isn't a rapper. He has also never had a viral hit, which makes his major label signing all the more interesting. The fact that the major labels (e.g Columbia) threw loads of money at an unknown 22-year-old pop-rock musician suggests to me that the tides are changing and guitar-driven music is making it's way back to the mainstream.

"3 Nights" is definitely becoming a hit here in Australia. I heard it being played on i98fm (a Top-40 station in my local area) yesterday afternoon. As far as i'm aware, it hasn't charted elsewhere.
