The "Worst Songs of the 2000's" thread was a bit of an eye-opener for me, to be honest. I've never really liked most of the songs which were released between 2004-2006 as is, but in retrospect, the Mid 2000's really were an ordinary time for mainstream music. A lot of the pop songs were really childish and sexualised. They also contained stupid lyrics, like " This is bananas, b.a.n.a.n.a.s" in "Hollaback Girl". I also don't like how over commercialsed the songs were/are; no authenticity at all. Here are a few examples: Why did I have to grow up in such a crappy time for music.

Yeah.....like I've previosly said, I think the mid 2000s were a pretty trashy time for music. Although Alot of these songs make me really nostalgic for my childhood so I kinda hate/like them if you no what I mean. Although it wasn't just the mid 2000s, I think 2008 is one of the worst years for music along with 2004 . The early 2000s were much better imo (and i also think 2007 was a pretty good year for music)

It wasn't just the mid 2000s that were awful, 2004, 2006, 2008 & 2009 were all pretty bad years for music. 2000-2003, 2005 & 2007 were very good imo.

Come to think about it, i'm not sure if I particularly like any songs that were released in 2009. I would have to agree that 2009 was quite an average year for music. There's a few songs from 2009 which I don't mind, but not too many!

I'd say it depends on the genre. The mid-00s were great for R&B, Non-snap hip-hop, rock music, pop-rock etc.

Lol, nice to just take some outliers in making generalized statements. As if "Sexualized with stupid lyrics" was a new concept by then (hint: it's basically the motto of Disco music). Most hits back were widely innocious R&B tunes with the occasional Crunk or dumb Snap Rap hit. And I will take stupid but fun music any day of the week over bland and boring music (for example late 80s-early 90s adult contemp *shudders*)
Also "Drop It Like Its Hot" is a super fun song you heathens

But when a song about Fergie's rear-end can top the charts and make the Top-5 in many countries around the world, you know that the overall standard of music has dropped considerably.

Some of these posts are so subjective. Haha The mid 2000s were legendary for R&B. Hip Hop was still generally enjoyable.

Very subjective lol The mid 2000s were all about R&b and hip hop and anything POP related was R&b or Hip hope oriented, that was the flare of the 2000s style, along with pop punk.

Two of the best years for movies, TV, and video games. That said, I don't think either are the worst. The worst by far in my opinion is 2005. Oh my god, the year of Nickelback, Black Eyed Peas, and CRAZY FROG at their peak. You don't get much worse than that in my opinion. 2009 also had the awful crunkcore trend with bands like Brokencyde and Dot Dot Curve.

Mid 2003 through first half 2004 is culturally early 2000s or an early and mid 2000s hybrid, but numerically they are mid 2000s, so I will refer to them as that so the mid 2000s do not seem as bad as many on here are making them out to be. Mid 2003 though 2004 for mid 2000s music is amazing. Early through mid 2005 is in between tolerable and unbearable, kind of like a transition or drop off phase. Late 2005 through mid 2006 is unbearable and atrocious. 2005-2006 is one of the worst school years for 2000s music. Nothing but snap and ringtone rap. Yuck! You did have rock during this time but it was this kind of rock:
