This is a pretty common expression and I thought it might make for an interesting topic. Someone who perceives life with a "glass half-full" is generally optimistic, positive and focuses more on the good qualities, while a "glass half-empty" type of person is naturally prone to be more skeptical and negative.
From an overall viewpoint, would you say that you are a "glass half-full" or "glass half-empty" type of person? Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Personally, I've always been a "glass half-empty" type of person. I see things for what they are and i'm not going to pretend that everything is okay when it isn't the case.

Depends. I think I'm more conceptually optimistic/idealistic. (ie: "Guys the 2020's will be amazing! Nuclear weapons will be abolished and we will all get free candy!!!") Meanwhile I can be fairly grim when it comes to describing more tangible things. (ie: Better not drive today so I don't die from all the idiot drivers. Or maybe that's better th an getting sad later and crying for a few hours.") Okay I am exaggerating but I think this comes from how I was raised. Expect terrible things so you aren't disappointed. Expect good things? "You should've known better. You should've expected it." So I make myself aware to not look like a fool. And then I retreat into my head where all the good stuff is. The further something is away from me, when it can't be seen in some way, it's easier for me to have a positive outlook.

I actually think it's better to be under that mindset than to expect everything to come on a silver platter, so to speak, as it only results in someone developing a sense of entitlement. That's not how life works anyway IMO. The good comes with the bad and there's no guarantee that positives will come out of every situation.
