A thread to discuss matters which don't tie-in with the other threads in the Media Lounge.
I visited the Kirkconnell Correctional Centre yesterday afternoon, which is about 25 kilometres east of Bathurst. Interestingly enough, the TV in the loungeroom/kitchen area of the correctional centre has VAST (and is always tuned to Imparja), including the TVs that can be rented by inmates for their prison cells. I would have thought that the signals from Mount Panorama would have reached Sunny's Corner (the locality in which the correctional centre is located).

If anything, I think Mt Canobolas (located just west of Orange) would be the most likely source of terrestrial TV signals (ie. not via satellite) in that area rather than from Mt Panorama, as the latter is much lower powered than the former. Also, Mt Canobolas' TV/FM towers are located almost 1400m above sea level at its summit, meaning that its signals travel a very long way.

I didn't realise that the transmission tower from Mount Panorama was lower powered. In any case, it's interesting that the correctional centre uses VAST instead of the local television signals.

This might be an unpopular opinion (with knowing how this news service is often criticised for being outdated), but out of the three local news bulletins in the Central West, I actually think that WIN News is the best quality bulletin in terms of its professionalism and the way in which the bulletin is presented.I decided to watch Prime7 Local News tonight and I was disappointed by how simplistic the weather forecast was.

One thing that I couldn't help but noticing while I was down in Albury, is how much more conservative GTV-9 is with their news presentation in comparison to the other states. Nine News Melbourne's afternoon bulletin has an intro voiced by Peter Hitchener (Sydney's afternoon news bulletin does not feature a voiceover intro at all) and the bulletins themselves are more tightly structured.
