I don't really have much of an opinion on them, to be honest.

I don't know about phones but I think certain websites have changed for the worse. Sometimes they're just unnecessarily complicated and often don't work. Or like in the case of Facebook, have reformatted and lost their appeal.

I'm not sure if you or anyone else has encountered this, but I always find Facebook to be really laggy (at least via Desktop anyway). It can take ages for my newsfeed to load and sometimes the notification button doesn't work at all when you click on it. It's something that has been happening to me for the past couple of years.

Yes. I blame the algorithm that sorts everything. Back when it just displayed things in a linear fashion as they were posted, they just came up without any delay.

I absolutely do. I miss skeuomorphism and Frutiger Aero. So much better than modern oversimplified logos and Blob Web aesthetics. I miss when desktop operating systems were actually made to be desktop operating systems rather than having mobile features shoehorned in. Windows 7 is one of the best versions of Windows. I also really liked the aesthetic of mobile operating systems back then. The aesthetic of Android 3 Honeycomb has to be my favorite mobile operating system aesthetic of all time. Websites also looked much better, like YouTube, which still had customizable channels until 2013 with the stupid fucking YouTube One update.

You already had the flat colorful design in the early 2010s. Just look at the Pepsi logo which changed in 2008. There is a commercial for it in 2009 which is completely flat. The flat anti-skeumorphism trend started around 2008. Only smartphones held on to the outdated design since they were new and didn't get updated yet. People cared more about having a smartphone rather than having a modern design. So looking at smartphones as an example is not good. Windows 8 was in development throughout all the early 2010s and that flat design was always the design Microsoft had in mind in order to be touch friendly. This all happened WAY before the mid 2010s, had its roots in the late 2000s... The best year to pinpoint for when design started shifting away from the 3D look into a more flat look was 2008..

Skeuomorphic interfaces were still dominant through much of the era. Even if not to the same extent as the mid-late 00s, they still dominated UX design.

I actually like it better than full-on skeuo or minimalism.

Right now U/X builders are afraid to cross completely in skeuomorphism so they dipping their toe for the time being It's better than pure flatness at least. But full skeuo will eventually need to come to fruition because of VR.
