The American Pie series 1 2 3 & 4 really set the standard for teen movies. In the years preceding it you had stuff like national Lampoon and Porky.
As soon as American Pie 2 released you had EVERY movie trying to copy its (party in someones house) formula.

Movies that American Pie inspired

Not another Teen movie
White Chicks
Mean Girls
John Tucker Must Die
The Girl Next door
Whatever it takes
Old School
EuroTrip
Sex Drive
Roadtrip

When the second installment of the film launched is when you saw its formula really being jacked.

Uhh...Road Trip predates American Pie 2. So maybe all those movies were ripping on Road Trip.

Edit: Actually, so does Whatever It Takes. But Road Trip was more clearly successful and probably more influential.

Then why did you specifically identify American Pie 2 as the influential one? And yeah, Road Trip didn't have "sequels," but I'd say it arguably set the formula. It's also a clearer link between the earlier National Lampoon style of teen comedy and sex comedies like American Pie.

I mean if we wanna go really clear with this, Can't hardly wait and something about Mary brought it back, but I feel popularity wise American Pie set the standard.
