Inspired by @sharksfan99 series
Major points and observations in bullet points
. This Summer was not as hot as 2005 . Malcolm in The Middle & that 70s show end their run on television, final time Fox would be dominant on Sunday Nights, end of an era kind of feeling. . Myspace becomes the 1# website in the world beating google.com, every computer in the world was dialed into myspace, walk into an apple store and every computer is on it. . I fell asleep during Tokyo Drift, the Vin Diesel cameo surprised me. . Jetix leaves ABC family, I remember being very ticked off about this . Sexyback debuts in July, by now Timbaland was dominating the radio. . Final year of 2000's surf culture (The OC, Laguna beach) . Dior as a brand is on fire this year . ECW comes back to WWE as a third brand, RVD wins the WWE title, interesting summer for wrestling . xbox 360 becomes the 7th gen system of choice, XBOX has solidified itself as THE brand. ( Ps2,Gamecube,Xbox are still played) . Wifi stealing becomes very popular due to PSP . "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakria is played in every public establishment you can think of . 80s fonts and colors are used heavily in advertisements . Tab soda comes back . Disney Channel enters its new era and by this summer Hannah Montana is dominating the network . The WB network gets good ratings due to the channel ending soon . Final year TRL ratings were decent . Youtube blows up around June 2006, so many clips and full movies are uploaded to the website. . MTV launches MHD a HD music video channel, I remember watching it and being amazed it was HD . Speaking of HD, HD becomes normalized around this point (would take until 2008 for it to penetrate the market deeply) . I got HBO and Cinemax for free this summer, no clue why but I didn't complain watching all the free movies. . final 3 months of Sam Goody being a store . Final 3 months of Suncoast being a store

I don't remember mid-2006 well. I had a meltdown in McDonalds (or a Burger King, don't remember which) and on my 4th birthday I crapped myself and got a Sesame Street coloring book, but that's about it.

I don't remember Mid 2006 being too eventful for me personally. One thing that does comes to mind though when I think back on the era is the 2006 World Cup. The Socceroos had qualified for the World Cup for the first time in almost 30 years, so there was a huge amount of anticipation for the World Cup. This was a big deal at the time, because football was only just starting to gain public acceptance in the country and it was still trying to overcome the hurdles that had held the sport back for the past century. The Daily Telegraph held a competition during the tournament where you could collect medallions of each member of the squad in each issue of the newspaper. I got my own collectors case (which I still have), but I didn't go down to the newsagencies often enough to actually collect the little medallions. Australia went pretty well during the World Cup. We actually progressed to the Round of 16, but unfortunately, we were knocked out by Italy in a close-match. I had wanted to watch the match, but it was on during the early hours of the morning and I had school that day as well.

Here in Asia, this game, O2Jam, was HUGE among kids and teens. The game lasted from 2005 to 2009, but it truly became a huge fad some time in the summer of 2006.

Interesting to hear that you are from Asia! What country are you from, if you don't mind me asking? The Philippines. Do we have a thread asking people where they're from? Perhaps we could compare experiences across geographies.

We've got a poll which asks which country everyone is from. There's also a thread in the "Travel & Tourism" board where people can discuss the similarities and differences between countries.
