I spent most of this morning reading album reviews on Rate Your Music and after reading reviews on Superunknown, Ten and In Utero, it gave me the idea to create this thread. What is your favourite Seattle band out of the "big 4" and why is that the case? As someone who has been a fan of alt-rock since pre-school age, for me, picking my favourite Seattle band is essentially like trying to pick your favourite child. With the exception of Alice in Chains (which I will go into more detail below), I can't say that I truly dislike any band lesser than the others. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden all had their own unique qualities which made them just as great as each other. I guess if I had to choose though, I would go with Pearl Jam and that's because I have a strong personal attachment to their music. My Dad introduced me to Pearl Jam when I was 5 and I instantly fell in love with their songs. I've always really liked Eddie Vedder's vocals. As a result, it's hard to go past that association I have of listening to their songs. I listened to Soundgarden and Audioslave quite a lot when I was younger as well, although, I have more memories of liking/listening to Pearl Jam's songs, so that's why they got my vote. As for Alice in Chains, the reason why I don't rate them as highly as the other three is simply because i'm unfamiliar with their music. My parents never owned or listened to any of their CDs, so unlike Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and to a lesser extent Nirvana, I was never exposed to AIC's music while I was growing up. I don't think they're too well-known here in Australia though. I can't say that I have ever heard any of Alice of Chain's songs played on the radio, not even on Triple M (a rock station). The only Alice in Chains song I have ever listened to is "Would?". I should give more of their music a go.
