But there was some kid on TV before, who was confident that there's still one year left in the decade, and that 2021 is the start of the 2020s! It may not be over yet.

But there was some kid on TV before, who was confident that there's still one year left in the decade, and that 2021 is the start of the 2020s. I don't really blame them for thinking that, tbh. When I was 10, I was adamant for the longest time that the year 2010 was going to be the last year of the 2000s, because of how there was no Year 0 AD. I thought every decade started with the years ending in "1". It wasn't until six months into 2010 or so that I actually realised that we were in a new decade.

The 2010s were the cultural revolution for me. (The decade things really changed).

I don't know if this Doja Cat video has been posted already, but: Around halfway through (as in the video thumbnail), it's like a full-on callback to bands like RHCP and Crazy Town (who did this). I haven't really had my pulse to pop culture in the last couple years, but I'd be curious to know from those of you who do pay attention whether the late 2019 nostalgia for the 2000s has kept going in the '20s.

This is one of the most underrated songs of 2018 and the Late 2010s in general. I think it's a shame that "Say Something" became the bigger hit.

I heard Silver by DMA's on Triple M a couple of days ago. I quite liked it, and it inspired me to have a look at their other music. Their music sort of gives me a Britpop vibe, which is probably the reason why I like it. This is probably my favourite song from them:

I just watched this video and it's a fantastic, well-researched piece that perfectly explains how 2010s pop music went from bright, bold and bubbly in 2010 to dark, slow and introspective in 2019, with some highlighted songs that marked the shifts. A highly recommended viewing.

Come to think of it, these two songs from late 2009/early 2010 foreshadowed the indie/hipster sound that would dominate the first half of the 2010s.

I've just discovered that this song didn't become a hit in the US, UK and mainland Europe until mid 2013, which is really bizarre for me, because I associate "I Love It" so heavily with 2012 and my first year of high school. As it turns out, it was actually a hit in Australia before it became a hit elsewhere.

It actually blew my mind to learn it already existed in 2012, because it got so overplayed in 2013 that it became one of my de facto songs to hear when I want to have some '13 throwback.

This is one of the best single releases of 2019 IMO, it's such a great homage to Britpop and the song itself is genuinely good too. It's a shame it wasn't a bigger hit.

I've liked this since it was a hit when I was 11/12, but I only discovered who it was by a few days ago. This always comes to mind for me when I think back to early 2011 or thereabouts!
