I don't think they "went wrong". 2009 was okay but it wasn't bad and I never thought they went wrong, even culturally.
For the 2010s it was 2013 when my personal life and pop culture in general went down the toilet, and to me it's only gotten worse since.

I don't think the 2000s ever really went "wrong" as such. Every decade has their good and bad qualities to them. That being said, if I had to pick a quality which I don't particularly like about the 2000s, it was the emergence and over saturation of reality-TV programs. Thanks to reality-TV's rise in popularity during the Early 2000s, we now have 'quality' programs on our screens such as two complete strangers being matched together as a couple and random families across the country making idiotic comments about the shows they are watching in their living rooms. The sad thing is, these type of programs are the highest ratings shows on TV. It's a sad state of affairs...
